I just enrolled in the Aug 13 - Sept 9 SIT program in Chiang Mai and I am very excited about this new experience. Anyone here taken the course or have any reviews. I just recently resigned from my job in the US. I'm actually Canadian and was working in the US for about 10 years. I have been wanting to do this for a while now.
My plan is to possibly work in Thailand (Chiang Mai/Bkk or elsewhere in Thailand) for a short while then explore other Asian countries which I have been to some (Japan, Phil, Korea (iffy now), Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam....maybe even head down to Aus and NZ
Any advice or suggestions, since I am new to this, would be appreciated!
Thanks

In my opinion you picked the best place on the planet to start out with. I would like to go there next, if I can swing it.
I have taught in BBK and Pattani down south.
For me BBk is just too hot and humid, down south its cooler and drier but it's really not very safe with the fighting going on between the extremists and the
budhists.
It would be great to find a job there in Chiang Mai. Stay at least a year or two and check out other locations in southeast asia during vacation before deciding to move. China, S.Korea, Taiwan, Japan are not as warm and friendly as Southeast Asian countries, IMO.
I would like to try Vietnam, Ho Chi Min City.
And some day I would like to return to Bandung, Indonesia.
Best wishes

You are welcome.
I live in Taiwan. But I am planning a vacation for CM in December when the rains let up and the weather cools a little bit. |
