Hullo,
I am almost dead set on jumping on a flight in that direction as soon as possible, that part of the world sounding both lovely and very easy to find work in. However, I am a little stumped with regards to the visa issue. As I have no job lined up, I would be going on a tourist visa and then, subject to me finding something decent, doing my best to upgrade to a working visa. All online searches to date have yielded nothing with regards to this issue, however, and I'm a little uncertain as to who to contact, what with there being no Laos embassy within these shores.
So, I am appealing to Laos based people from the UK, if you're out there! Who did you contact with regards to the visa issue? At present my best option seems to be to fire off an email to the embassy in Paris in the hope that it will be forwarded to an English speaker.
Thanks so much! |

Hi there,
I am a UK (and Australian) citizen living in Australia, but I will be heading to Laos with my son very soon.
As far as I know there is no such thing as a work visa in Laos. You can get a 30 day tourist visa on arrival by air, or at the Thai-Lao border.
If you want to stay longer you can do a border run every thirty days, or get a business visa. These are apparently quite easy to get even if you are not working or running a business.
Some schools will pay for your business visa if you work for them.
I believe the tourist visa costs about US$30, not sure about the business visa.
Its a good idea to take a supply of clean and untorn small denomination US dollar notes and a heap of passport photos for visa and airport taxes etc.
Others on the board might be able to give you first-hand info or correct me if I am wrong.
Good luck, maybe see you round the traps. Cheers, James. |
