If you are planning to stay in TEFL, why not bite the bullet and get that MA? Then you could join 'em...

Absolutely agree, VS. Out of the ME at 41, back in at 43...the best money I ever spent! I think the key, though, in getting the specialized degree in TEFL/TESL/TESOL/Applied Linguistics is...ARE YOU FOR REAL ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING??? If you stick with the first degree, I think not!

VS good point the MA would eventually lead to more money but not always to better jobs and working conditions. There are many factors involved. Biting the bullet isn't always the best choice for everyone.

NCTBA, a bit cheeky, which fits your online character, but also a good point. I suppose it comes down to how serious folks like me feel about their TEFL teaching careers. Some days I feel like I'm for real about what I'm doing, making a difference and all that, and other days I feel like I'm just going through the motions, not really making the most of my life as an EFL teacher.

I'm always learning, though. Even if I never bite that bullet, get that MA, and become for real about what I'm doing, I'll always find other ways to be content with my life. Being a pushy poster on a teachers' job discussion forum certainly isn't one of them!

Pssst! Over here! Need a diploma? I got one here hot outta da mill!

Well, alterego, if it takes cheekiness to get folk who are serious about teaching to go for the advanced degree, then my work is done. If you have the CELTA or DELTA, then you've got the practical down pat. It's the MA or M. Ed. that'll really open your eyes!

All the best...

I felt that NCTBA was having a conversation with his alter ego, alter ego. I think they are the same person, though they will refuse to admit it.

I got my offer from IAT-9000 a month plus 8000 for housing. I declined it. Thank you to all for your information and help. If you know of anything going please let me know.

Marquess, what type of credentials and how many years teaching experience do you have, if you don't mind?

It gets lonely, sometimes, in the middle of the night when the voices in my head are asleep. And, it concerns them greatly when I startle them awake when I wake up screaming. Poor voices in my head. Crying or Very sad

What happened to the OP's posts? Was this some kind of joke? Why did Marquess delete all of his comments? Well, 17K sounded a bit high, I'd actually consider taking a job at IAT for that salary + housing package. Does anyone know the real salary range IAT is offering new recruits...anyone care to enlighten us?

Marquess why did you turn down that offer? From what I can make out, that would be a decent salary in the UAE. Anyone care to enlighten me?

NCTBA, it would be my honour to be your alter ego any time! Wink

I would guess that they have decided to keep their offer, or thought that they revealed too many cards, so have covered their tracks. In any case, thanks for sharing, and good luck.

What is one to think of the working conditions of IAT? Does their housing allowance cover the cost of housing in the area?

NCTBA and alterego -- You've got a great sense of humor.

Don't worry everyone... NCTBA is now on leave and will eventually get himself sorted out in time to return to work.
