Thanks

I'm inclined to say 'no', but that's just a hunch. |

Just read in the paper this morning: "The school year will begin on September 23, after Ramadan, for state schools and private eastablishments that use the Ministry of Education curriculum..."
There has been rumours about this for some time - school usually resumes around end of August, then breaks for Ramadan.
Can't tell you when colleges/unis start. |

Well, since so many of the local families will not return to the Emirates until the kids are in school, that means that their university age kids won't be back either.
It is going to be a quiet start to the semester if they start the tertiary that long before the schools. ...and a real headache... when they finally arrive after Eid.

The article in Gulf News is interesting.
They had to go fairly low in the ranks to find someone who would say anything. I'd guess the HCT VC opted not to comment, since he doesn't want to take the risk of being overturned by the cabinet. (the article notes the cabinet is discussing this issue). Otherwise, he'd be the first person to talk.
My hunch is that Ramadan will be a false start for higher ed, at best. Nobody will know for sure how many student's they're teacing until some time in October.
But really --- that's part of living in Arabia. |

The VC, I heard, has sent out a system-wide email confirming that the HCT's first day of school, according to my sources, begins on August 30th...
...or so I'm told.

Does teaching go on all through Ramadan? Normal hours? |

Teaching is taught thru Ramadan only at reduced, discounted hours.

Hey LoL... every Ramadhan a group of female teachers used to take belly dancing lessons since we got off early each day. It seemed that none of us were likely to be in training for a new career... and I had been thinking 'retirement job in Costa Rica'?
Of course we weren't fasting...

LOL, I do belly dancing 4xs/week in AD. Where are you located? Are you already taking classes?
Sorry to hijack the thread, folks. Got excited... |

Hi MM... good to see you posting again.
LoL will be up the road a piece from you, so it would be too long a commute to join your class.
