i have an interview with AEON coming up soon. i'm thinking about cancelling since i've heard they have pretty much stopped hiring, and even if they were, i have zero previous experience and doubt i'd get selected for employment. plus the cost (about $150) and time i'm gonna have to spend (2 days) out there seem to be such a hassle compared to the jobs i've been offered in korea, which just do phone interviews. so... i don't know. i mean i obviously won't actually know if they're gonna hire me unless i go out there and do the interview but are my suspicions pretty accurate or not? |

There's been quite a lot of discussion on this topic, use the search function.
I suppose it comes down to how much you want to go to Japan? If your happy to settle for Korea then going to the Aeon interview may not be a priority. Aeon are still hiring but the competition is fierce.
I wouldn't be put off by what you have heard. Experience is not that important to Aeon, when I interviewed the recruiters said they were looking for adaptable people. I believe personality also plays a big part of it. |

Almost everyone in my interview group was hired, even losers like me. Why is everyone saying AEON isn't hiring? They hire everybody who shows up, it seems. Give it a shot. |

does AEON consider applicants who are already in Japan? Any other "majors" hiring from within, currently?

also, what does the follow up interview entail? i understand they give you a topic and you have to produce a lesson plan in ten minutes... is it very hard? how did that work exactly? |

Aeon hasnt stopped hiring....but their hiring has become more competitive.
I think what discourages people is that they wont be placing anyone until early 2010. |

the follow up interview is pretty simple. They want to see your ability to teach. They give you some materials and then give you 10 minutes to prepare a lesson around them. They provide markers and a white board to brainstorm ideas or write things down. They also practice lobby talk and go over other things (to be honest I can't remember). But since the second interview was only an hour I actually found it a lot easier and less nerve wracking than the first interview. |
