I have seen in some KSA job ads that the Immigration is not granting visas to anyone over 58 this year. I'm not sure if this means you must still be 57 or that you cannot yet be 59. I think it is the former. Since I turn 58 in three weeks, and I don't have any offers from KSA yet, I've about given up on it. Oman, the cutoff appears to be 60. I've heard it's 55 in UAE. I think that most people already working there when they reach the age can be grandfathered (pun somewhat intended) in, but of course, only if they like you.

Hey, thanks for all of the replies. As usual, they have been useful and I appreciate the veterans helping out those of us who are new to the game.

There is one guy at our school who just turned 61. He said he was told he had to retire once he turned 60. He said he then had a meeting with some official a couple of years ago, like one of the Princes or something. Then he was allowed to keep working here. So, it's possible to be employed after 60. Just need to know the right people. It's called "wasta". Wink

Over the years, there always seems to be a few teachers over 60, who have been there for often a very long time. It doesn't appear to be wasta in the majority of places so much as... as long as one can still do the job and is healthy, it is cheaper and more sensible for them to keep you. As long as it is to their benefit, they tend to let people stay. And why not?

But, I can understand not hiring someone who is very close to or over 60 since health issues can cause a problem.
