What is the deal here? Should your contract in Spain expire tomorrow, say, and you are a Canadian citizen, say, and your KSA contract starts next week, say, can you, say, fly to KSA from Madrid?
Or do you have to make the asinine journey back to YYZ Toronto airport and THEN fly to KSA?
What is the law here? |

your visa being sent to the designated embassy is valid for three month only at that embassy, although the visa itself is valid for one( or two) year/s.
Hope this bit of info is useful. |

There's no 'law'.
If your visa has already been processed, you can fly to KSA from anywhere in the world. However, if you're a Canadian flying from Spain, you lose out in the long run as your 'point of origin' will be Spain, and your employers will only pay to fly you there.
If you don't yet have a visa, you have no chance of getting one in a week. You need to allow at least 3 weeks, possibly a lot more. It's much easier to get a visa in the country of which you are a citizen, though it can be done if you prove residency of the country you are currently in. Your Saudi employers may well require you to return to Canada in order to process the visa. |

The law is what is written in the contract. Get your point of origin as Canada and fly from where you want. My point of origin is London. I haven't been in the UK since 2002, and processed the visa and came from Colombo but I still get the London ticket, or 50% air fare. |

wow, you have to be a logistics coordinator AND financial analyst just to calculate your air mileage, points of roigin/departure, and Pain-In-The-Buttocks threshhold, just to decide if all that honkin and hawkin and hiccuppin is worth a job in KSA!
not to mention THIS:
"Problem here is, if the CDC and FDA both advise strongly against getting "any live vaccine whatsoever" within a 30 day period of having received the Yellow shots (and there are a series of boosters one must get in order for the Yellow shot to work right, needing to be received on a strict time-table, like 1 booster every 14 days), we're now talking about getting a Yellow AND a Meningitis vaccine, and to avoid risk, these 2 properly done with boosters for Yellow would require atleast 60-70 days, safely speaking.
I think if the Retinal scan is done within those 70 days, the optic nerve merges with the retina in a Big Brother Tribute to Invasion of Privacy dogma, thereby fusing the nano-chip brain implant to the frontal lobes of their brains. Even worse, the H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine will shortly be a requirement.
Then the CELTA and TESOL are worth nothing. Only the TEFL will count."

Thanks ecletic, but we really don't need to read your opinion on retinal scans three times. |

So sorry, Citizen. Thanks for your frankness. Are you the Forum Spokesperson? Who is "we"? You must be anglo-saxon, then. |

Dear eclectic,
"Chip-on-shoulder alert ": individual specific
"anglo-saxon alert": generalized stereotype

I have heard that you can change your point of origin if you have a good enough reason, such as a Canadian passport in your case. I'm not sure if having a spouse from another country is an acceptable reason, but my husband is currently in negotiations with the university on this point. |

that is one helluva p-i-t-a (and I DON'T mean "bread"!), just to come to work in a country, for what could likely turn out to be 3 or 4 thousand riyals LESS than the stated amount.
As for chocolate chips and head 'n shoulders, I like neither sweets, NOR dandruff shampoos, Mr. Slat!
Now if he woulda said something like "eclectic, just curious, why do you post the same thing 4 times?", I woulda responded in a more civil manner, as his question woulda been more civil than what he actually wrote. |
