Any tips on where to pick up some adjunct work? I've got seven years experience teaching business, law, poli sci, criminal justice at the graduate and undergraduate level. I don't want to get tied down to a three year contract like the hubby has done.

The bad news is that adjunct work is normally for TEFL. Thus you will have to hustle a bit more to find a position.

You didn't give us any clue on what city you are in... I would think that the only possibilities would be colleges and universities in your area... and since you are there, you would just call/or arrive with CVs in hand. But... now is probably not the time as none of them have much of a clue what they will need until classes get going in Aug or September or whenever. The small private colleges might be the best chance.

Thanks, VS. Hubby will be in Al Ain. I'm open to adjuncting in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, or Dubai. I don't want to get bored and am not exactly the desperate housewives/yenta type. I'll be teaching online for some US universities, but want to make sure my plate is full.

Unless I'm incorrect, I think that the HCT has a 100 km rule...which is to say that if a teaching couple are teaching at schools at least 100 km distant from each other (or is it 150?) both can receive the housing benefit.

I think not, tho, if one is an adjunct...

...anybody?

I really don't want to get tied down to a three year contract with anyone, though. If only one of us is obligated long-term, it's a lot easier to pay back the pro-rated expenses and move on if the lifestyle or employment conditions are subpar.

Were you thinking of commuting to AD or DB daily? That would be a scary drive. If you are in Al-Ain, you should be able to find something with HCT or UAEU to fill in with your online work.
