given the fact that:
1. some of our students grandparents were surviving on sand and dates and
2. the country now has access to most modern material items and a good ammount of intellectual food as well.
How will the country's youth population reconcile the past with the present?? |

My father was born in the year when "Kitty Hawk" first flew. So what ? Is adapting to change any easier for white folks ? |

i would think the northern states had an easier job accepting change than the southern ones. and the coastal states definitely easier for them than the rural central states....but this isn't the north american forum and the thread shouldn't spin off into a lame anti-racist circular argument.
no, white people don't necessarily have an easier time adapting to change.

Well I think the people in power are following a policy of "letting it out slowly" and the Saudis are themselves polite and quiet people compared to other arabs or turks. the arab sense of civil public behavior might save them from more troubling events like what's happening in iran.
In Iran the policy was/is "do what you want behind closed doors" |

Sounds pretty identical to the Saudi attitude. |

By this, do you mean it will "save" them ffrom troubling events like fighting for a right to have a say in how they will be governed? |

My, aren't WE the clever one! Doncha think that you could show the world your American-phobic side in a less crass manner!
What would be the difference in describing your homeland but only replacing the "c" with an "n"?
Grow up, Scot!

Dear NCTBA,
Yup, scot's back. In the past hour, he's trashed: 1. Catholics; 2. The Pope;
3. Djinns; 4. Angels; 5. citizens of the USA
Ah, we've missed you, you old curmudgeon; glad to see your holiday didn't
make you all mellow and PC.
Regards,

Well, Scot..if American is so detestible to you, why mention them at all? Jes' refer to those most despicable people as "the denizens of the land between Canada and Mexico"? At least, you'd be showing some class!
You're not being a very good example of some very good Scots that I work with...in fact you more and more remind me of a Scot that I worked under and detested...do you ever hear me deride all Scots?
Again, grow up!

Dear NCTBA,
While an occasion could arise when I might deride the Scots, I would never deride the Scotch.
By the way, I do believe that Canadians and Mexicans are not only Americans, but North Americans, as well.
Dear LOL,
Scot may be a "Derider of the Purple Sage", but he's no fool:
"You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Vikings.
Regards,
John |

I feel a great affectiopn for the Vikings. Large parts of Scotland were colonised and civilised by our Norse neighbours - but we saw them off in the end.
I do not feel so warmly about the denizens of that land between Mexico and Canada who have I feel betrayed the traditions of Jefferson.

Dear scot47,
Yikes - yet another poster prone to swathing 300 million or so people with the same tar brush.
As one such denizen, I can assure you that Tom and I remain on good speaking terms, though I'm still trying to convince him of the immorality of slave-holding and the impropriety of having illicit relations with same.
Tom, however, is slowly but surely coming around to my point of view.
Regards,
John |

I do not damn all the inhabitants of that far-off land. And I commend them for telling that "Wee German Lairdie", George III where to go. |

Dear scot47,
Ah, sorry I misinterpreted this:
"I do not feel so warmly about the denizens of that land between Mexico and Canada who have I feel betrayed the traditions of Jefferson."
It's good to know tat you have not consigned me (and, I hope, my lovely wife) to the fires of perdition.
Hmmm, I feel a little like Lot in the OT- hope my lovely wife doesn't turn around for a last look (though that would certainly remove any need for me to buy salt for the remainder of my days.) |
