Hi all,
A brief background:
I'm a college student soon to enter my senior year. I'll graduate with a History degree but after college I am serious about teaching abroad for a year or two. My only experience teaching has been as a reading mentor/tutor for grade school students (in the US). I'm still about a year away from pursuing TEFL certification, etc. although I've been researching on this site and know the basics of the process.
My question:
Since I 'm still about a year away from beginning the process and will only have minimum qualifications, is there anything I can do in the upcoming year to make myself more marketable in the teaching market once I graduate? Generally prepare myself for the transition abroad?
Any advice that would be relevant for any newbie regardless of destination would be much appreciated. Obviously I realize that much more research has to be done on my part to make a decision on exactly where I'd like to teach (have traveled to Prague and am leaning that way but it's basically wide open) along with many other considerations. Thanks. |

Have enough money in the bank or available on your credit card to get yourself out of a bad job and back home or else out of a bad job and into a good one, while supporting yourself till you find that good job and finally get paid. That usually means $2000-3000 minimum. |

Yer a smart person WAR707! A rarity nowadays... TEcC had good advice for you,,,don't max out yer cards in yer last year.
Now's the time to start inquiring about the JET program in Japan. If yas don't know what it is, google it. Too many people wait too long before applying for the the program. It's about the best gig you'll ever have as a newbie in Japan.
