desultude, most literate people would detect the sarcasm in the above.
Please, quell your sophomoric attempts at turning this into an ideological fight and refrain from the activist rhetoric. We will all benefit by staying on topic and providing objective information.
Thanks BC and VS for the useful posts. |

Then of course there was the famous toilet paper outage on the female campus, several people were foraging about for any kind of paper.
I talked with several female friends on the PMU bus who had to bring their own toilet paper. |
Well, you know very well that in the Magic Kingdom all toilets (male and female) are equipped with special taps with an extension to be used for your hygiene purposes, why your female friends don't use them?
Water is more clean and safer then toilet papers, use it for the sake of your health and well being! |

The famous Arab "butt goosers" are intended for use in the aboulution practice just before prayers.
Besides you still need something to dry off a wet bum.

Not true brasscat... washing for prayers is done either at the sink or a special area... definitely NOT in the toilets. Toilet paper is not used in much of the world and I long ago learned to carry it with me at all times. Apparently only we are worried about 'drip dry' ... which is why I carry my own.

Several times I have seen the stalls soaking wet just after prayers began. Someone is sure a lousy airm.

Well... it WAS the men's bathroom.
I used to walk into the women's bathroom at the medical faculty where I was teaching and find all the girls with their feet in the sinks. Perhaps it is just that women are more hygienic than the men. And they were even supplied with a special area for washing... but they seemed to prefer the sinks. Thus the sink areas were always awash with water at prayer times in the ladies...
What I am saying is that the water in the toilet area is definitely not there because of ablutions for prayer but for cleanliness after using the toilet.

Well, Mr Brass-Cat, it is called 'Ablution' not 'Aboulution' .
In Islam it is forbidden to do ablution in toilets or any area which is not clean. The Ablution is carried out in normal sinks or special areas which are outside the toilets. And what you have described is totally wrong and misleading. |

Yes, we all know what the hoses are for, and I do quite like them, myself. I will miss having the luxury of a bidet in my home bathroom.
Back on topic, I was using the examples from the women's campus to answer you, fatimah, as I had assumed you were a female. I am surprised that a man teaching in Saudi Arabia would be dressing in a drag identity- perhaps I have misunderstood you. But you must know that cross-dressing is haram- especially in the name of Fatima!
Examples from the men's campus abound. While the women had time off for Eid and national day in the fall, the men all had to report to duty everyday, to do nothing. It seems that the Saudi admin felt lonely working there if the male faculty weren't around. They have to work on a day to day basis under the gaze of the above mentioned western male administrators, who are bullies to the men, also. As I said, they listen to nobody but those above them. The men have had lots of overtime foisted on them and have not been paid, been underpaid, or have had to fight for their pay, every time. The men's campus has night classes, so some of them have had to work split shifts with a lot of hours teaching. And I would rather have to endure SPITS than wasta boys any day.
I know there are problems at any job, but you don't find so many people leaving as soon as possible, and so many midnight runs. The majority of the runners have been men, so I think that being on the men's side may be actually harder than being on the women's. The most concrete objective evidence you can have is the turnover rate. That speaks for itself.

What are you referring to? Fatimah has no avatar... are you confusing fatimah for 007?
Nor do you... just an empty photo-site square... from the same site as isabel.

True. I meant screen name. My avatar is as empty as my head is sometimes. I had an avatar, but I don't know where it went, and I haven't gotten around to replacing it.
By the by, VS, I enjoy your posts- very level headed and informative. |

Did you notice that you and isabel use the same photo site? (we must have been posting at the same time... I added an edit.) These avatar places keep closing down and then we have to search up a new avatar.

Yeah, I've noticed that on other sites, too. I have a feeling some of the photo sites have changed policies and that dumps photos used for avatars.
I don't want to sound like a disgruntled scold about PMU, but it is far and away the worst job I have ever had. It is a rather shockingly disorganized and chaotic place with little regard for its faculty and staff (and its students, I might add). I have taught for years in other places, and have never seen anything like it.
I'm taking a bit of an extended break and look forward to going back to work in a much more positive environment.
And, on a positive note about PMU, the female faculty got on together really well, and we all loved our students, even if many of them were SPITS. We are all going to miss each other very much and feel bad that we had to break up such a good team. |

It being haraam, 007, may be true, but I ran into it all the time at all the air bases I worked at in saudi...as well as having to wipe off the muddy boot prints from those "special" people who hopped up on the toilet seat to do their business.
It is also haraam for a Muslim to drink alcohol, but I rubbed shoulders with quite a few high-ranking officials at foreign embassy shindigs who didn't have a problem throwing a few back.
The moral? It being haraam doesn't mean that it doesn't happen!
Tell me, does that C-130 still fly into Riyadh AB on Wednesday nights from Bahrain to fill the trunks of those cars at the far end of the runway???
Jes' another "haraam" thing that "doesn't happen!"

Well, in real life, a Muslim is a human being and is subject to weakness, and may drinks alcohol and do other things which are haram, and that is between him and GOD. If he asks for forgivness, may be GOD forgives him. Only Angels do not sin.

Of course it does happen. This is an old story of soldiers of Uncle Sam and their friends of Uncle Bandar.
That's why Bin Laden setup his brigade to clean the Magic Kingdom from those filling the trunks of their cars with the purple drink! |

You tell me 007...is forbidden "haram" or "haraam". I respect religious places and don't want to offend making a mistake between "forbidden" and that area of the Holy Kaaba.
