Wow, no one has ever called me an idiot before, at least not to my face, so to speak. Of course people post about non-related stuff, but surely you can find a better place to express your grief and not risk a lock being put on this thread.

Get over it.. if you don't like the topic.. click to the next topic.. Sometimes it is best to keep opinions.. especially stupid negative ones.. to oneself..

As i have advised.. read some old topics and you will see we post about many different topics.. from earthquakes.. to football matches.. etc..

Your opinion on this topic was unnecessary.. but anyway.. it is a forum and you can comment as you like.. I am just responding.. Peace

On this topic, a tasteless joke:
Quote:
As Farrah Fawcett ascended to heaven, since she was such an angel God asked her what she wanted for the world. She said, "I just want all the children to be safe again." God replied, "It shall be done!" Three hours later Michael Jackson was dead.

Well, I did warn you it was tasteless!

Yes teachers talk about all kinds of things naturally. Bring it on! The lives and deaths of these two people would certainly bring about conversation from students too. Very Happy

She was a good looking but underrated actress, he was the greatest performer I have ever seen in a live concert, bar none.

Hello Otterman Ollie,

You seem to have quite a few posts, and I've noticed you live or have lived in Turkey.

Have you ever worked in a language school? Does anyone out there work in a language school?

How bad are they? Do you recommend any of them? Is one more tolerable than another?

Thanks, The Lost Angel

hello tillymd
Yeah I've made one or two posts, I still live and work in Turkey, in a private university. This is considered to be the top of the food/ earning chain as far as teaching is concerned. language schools(aka dershanes) are at the opposite end of that chain. I would suggest unless you have a fair bit of teaching experience and the creds/qualies you may have to start in one of these and then work yourself up. Personally I have never ever worked in one of those frightful places but I do know someone on this forum who does.
Step forward and be recognized the one and only F.G.T.
Now you shall learn all about the good places to work in Izmir (only one I think) which is a much better place to live and work than noisy, smoky, polluted, overcrowded and dangerous Istanbul.
If you are thinking of alternative places apart from language schools pm me I know of at least one school that is still recruiting.

Salaries if you can call them that have dropped like stones in recent years. Due partly to the credit crunch meaning that uni graduates desperate for any kind of work have innundated lang schools with pleas for work. A friend of mine is a Director of Studies at a big language school in Istanbul and he says that he is now getting 50 CVs a day from wannabe teachers. Their qualifications range from nothing to PHDs and from teachers with 30 years experience to none.

You can now only just barely survive as an EFL teacher at a language school. Forget saving and don't even think about paying off debts.
