I saw a published salary scale a few years ago, but I believe it's not made available any more.

G6 salary should be fine to live in AD - depending of course on desired standard of living, necessary outgoings etc. It also depends on the exact starting salary, which varies within the range.

As a member of support staff (i.e. not direct teaching faculty), I think it's quite possible that they may offer you a start date outside the August/Jan start time for teaching staff. At my college, at least, non-teaching staff arrive throughout the year as/when needed and recruited.

Good luck!

Actually this is the busy time for HR. Teachers and most management have probably headed out, but HR is busily contacting people with final offers and organizing arrivals for August.

Once you do that interview you will know more than we do about the start date. But, as was said... keep the door open from your side until you get an actual offer. It is getting late in the day for August starts.

Hi,

Thanks again for all your insights - very useful.

I know I'll find out all if I get an interview - But what type of accomodation would HCT try and supply - for 2 adults and a child - I'm just curious. And would the area the accomodation be in be dependant on which particular college I would work for (or would the job be working across the whole of HCT?)

It would be a bit of a rush for an August start - but I'd be ready!...gulp...

Cheers again!! Smile

Two adults and a child rates the same as a couple without a child...a two-bedroom flat...or so I'm told. Not much of an incentive on having a child is it? Exclamation Shocked Two children get you into a three-bedroom.

Now, with one child, you could get into a three-bedroom, but that would be quite out of the ordinary, especially with the dirth of housing I hear the folk over at the HCT are facing.

So, do HCT supply you with accomodation or does one get an allowance? If so, how much? Also, how much is rent for a 3-bedroom apartment in Abu Dhabi? Approximate ranges would be more than appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Housing is provided, full stop. The cost of a three-bedroom should be of no consequence as it will be well above your reach if you are a teacher.

Dear lol:

It's a seasonal delight that just about to end as the second season is over. "Mudbugs" are more conventionally know as "cray/crawfish".

Aaauulll, seasoned crawfish!

Just a little update from my original post about this specific job at the HCT...

The original closing date for applications was originally the start of July - now this has been put back to the end of July. Is this normal practice? Does this mean they are extending the date as they have not enough preferred applicants to be put forward to the interview stage? Or have they extended the date as lots of people (who would be involved in the interview process) are now on annual leave at HCT?

I've been told by HR that the 'interviews process' will be held mid-August and will be done via video conferencing.

Ah well, I'll just have to wait and see whether I have been put forward for an interview - but I do hope so! Pre-screening successful, screening successful (what are the differences by the way?), interview selection - successful??! - who knows!

Thanks,

Cheers

Smile Yes, quite an incentive!! My wife and I should have looked at such incentives 25 years ago when we decided to start a family. We may have made other decisions with "such incentives"...

Oh, I forgot..... HCT did not exist 25 years ago. Oh well, so much for "such incentives". Life has existed outside of HCT for quite a number of years Wink

I would not expect it to have anything to do with annual leave, but more likely to do with the fact that they haven't found enough people that fit into the position that they are advertising, or applicants can be accepted, but then back out... and/or the fact that student numbers can be unpredictable and they tend to keep interviewing if it looks as if they may need more.

As to the pre-screening/screening question... I'd say... just guessing... that pre-screening is done directly by a poor drone in HR. (can you just imagine how many CVs they get???) If they think a CV looks acceptable, they send it to someone(s) a bit higher up the food chain who decides which CVs go to a committee that nominates those to be interviewed. HCT is nothing, if not bureaucratic, but the system does a pretty good job of gathering professional educators and weeding out most of the more extreme of the eccentrics that are rattling about the Gulf. Cool Of course, the lose some of the good ones in the same process...

Ah OK.

So the fact that the job application deadline has been extended, and I've not been offered an interview at this stage this is not a good sign for me...I guess? Or maybe I've been pencilled in for an interview but they are seeking more suitable applicants so they have a few to choose from...?

Will they inform me that I have not been selected for an interview, or will they only inform me if I have got an interview...?

Cheers again

They often don't contact you, no matter how often you contact them, because they don't like to say that you have been screened out. And they don't have to give a reason . . . but you can try again.

We can only guess, of course, but HCT is usually pretty good about telling you if they are NOT interested. It is one of the few places that even bothers to inform people when they are out of the running. Perhaps you are borderline...

Do not yet abandon all hope...

Thanks for the info & confidence!

I guess if mid-August comes and goes and I don't hear anything I'll presume I've not been successful..

However, I contacted HR at HCT telling them that I'm on holiday for the next couple of weeks, and they asked me again for my mobile and email address for them to use IF they need to contact me for an interview - so there still is hope, albeit slight hope!

I am quite patient so I don't mind waiting - it's just that I haven't come across many jobs like this (pretty much exactly the same job I'm doing in the UK!) too often, especially in the UAE - where I've always wanted to try to relocate to...

Are there any reliable job websites that I should keep an eye out for these types of jobs in the UAE for?

cheers again!
