I've got an offer from King Abdulaziz. They give me annual SR 17,000 for housing and that's it. I am supposed to find it by myself.
I have no idea how a woman can do that. How can I find it living in Ukraine? I have to come to Saudi first, look at the place!
Will it be enough? I don't need much, at least 2 bedroom house because I have a family.
Help very much appreciated!

I think the 17-thousand-for-accommodation regulation has been dictated by Saudi ministry of higher education since the ancient times of King Abdulaziz . It won't help to find a decent a one-bed room flat even in distant districts. The neighboring districts such as Naseem, Sulaimaneyah, or Faihaa are very expensive. Prepare yourself to pay no less than 25.000 p/a. Good luck in your housing hunt.

Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad
Do other place pay more?
I need to live close cause it's hard to get to the place. Or maybe I should have a private driver and that would be cheaper?
What about Corniche Apartments? Are they far?

Reasonable???

It's approaching TEN times your accommodation allowance! I don't know Jeddah, but I would imagine the Corniche area is the most expensive part of town. I think you will have to set your sights a tad lower.

Obviously you can't do that - they don't give house-hunting visas. I'm sure the university will put you up somewhere while you are looking for a more long-term option. So far as I know, employers are legally obliged to ensure that single women have a place to stay.

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm mistaken. I thought my allowance was 170, 000 but it's only 17 000.
Sad Sad Sad Sad
A friend of mine said he's renting out a house in Riyadh for !5 000 SR and it's a big house.
Well, I am a newbie, that's for sure. I've never rented a place so that's why I need an advice.
Please, give me some links.
Well, if the allowance is so small, how other teachers manage to survive?

15,000SR for a house in Riyadh????

Either a) he's sharing; b) his 'house' is a shack in Um Al Hamamm, or c) you misunderstood and he really said 150,000SR!

They probably have to add some money from their own salary above in addition to the housing allowance. Freesoul's figure of 25000SR is probably more realistic: I know people who rent 4 bed apartments in nice parts of Riyadh for about 45-50000SR per year, and Jeddah is supposedly cheaper than riyadh.

Saudi real estate rents vary dramatically. What happens is there's a shortage, prices soar, landlords start building like mad, prices plummet, and maybe they hit an equilibrium.

The problem, more than rent, is the money you have to pay to decorate, furnish and carpet the place.

Unfortunately you may have to use your housing allowance to pay for 6 months of rent and then save your salary over that 6 months to pay for the next 6 months. If the landlord allows of course, I know some want the whole year up front.
