My predicament:

My parents are helping me out while I'm in Korea by filing my taxes for me. Fortunately, we were able to get an extension (hence the timing of this post). Unfortunately, I forgot to give my 'rents power of attorney before I left, so they can't do any of the signing. I have a filled-out general power of attorney form in English, and there's a Korean notary in Tongyeong (I'm in Geoje), but he/she needs to be able to read the document (boss says he/she doesn't speak English).

What I need:

I'd like to know if anyone knows of a website that can provide a general power of attorney form in both Korean and English so that I can speed up this process. If anyone knows, please reply, otherwise, I'll assume I have to bite the bullet and head to the U.S. Consulate in Seoul (the opposite end of the country) to take care of this.

P.S. Before you ask if I've done any looking on the internet, I have. The closest I've come to finding what I want is a website that does POA for invention patents in multiple languages.

The IRS does not require a formal power of attorney. Almost any well drafted instrument will enable your attorney in fact to file your tax returns. There is an IRS form appointing a representative but it doesn't require a jurat. Actually your taxes can be filed online rather easily, so why not just do that? Hope this helps.

That actually is very useful information, though a tad late. I went a little over a month ago and had my POA notarized at the embassy and while I would have loved to do it online, all of my tax information was at my parents' house (which means I would have had to wait another week regardless).

I'll remember this, though and pass it on to anyone I know that might be in the same predicament. Thanks a bunch,

jmao
