I was just hired to teach 12th Grade English at a girl's school in MZ.
Information on Madinat Zayed proper is nigh impossible to find via the google due to the unfortunate circumstance that an area of Abu Dhabi city has the same name.
Fortunately there was an old post from 2007 on the forum about the "city." I am satisfied to know that there is one grocery and one gas station! fun! the boon-docks!
Now I want to see if any of you are in or have lived in the area. I would love to make a few virtual buddies before I ship out at the end of August.
I also welcome any other information!
Cheers! |

Thank you helen and carlen.
I have already pm'd one of the posters, but I think I shall resurrect the old thread. |

Just a warning that there is an option to turn off email alerts for PMs, so they may not know of your message.

Hi Bhoove,
Glad to hear that we are getting some new blood in MZ! Recruitment has been a constant problem, mainly due to the fact that people think it really is the back end of nowhere instead of a 90-minute drive away from Abu Dhabi. I am one of the posters there on the thread you resurrected, and have been here in MZ since the beginning of this project. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm happy to say that things have 'progressed' a little since MTelmar's arrival (sadly, things didn't work out for her, and she is no longer here), and we now have 2 supermarkets, and a shopping mall of modest proportions has just opened. There has been quite an influx of foreigners in the field of education, and you will no longer be considered an object of rarity, unable to go out in public without being stared at. Living in MZ is quite a pleasure in many ways, and you will hopefully find many colleagues willing to help you find your feet. I'm assuming you're going to Qatr al Nadr school? |

Hey Taka... glad to hear you're hanging in there. Did they ever get the sewage problem at MT's flat fixed? That seemed to be the thing that either started her problems or was the final straw. I never did get the whole story.
Welcome back

Hi VS,
Yep, I'm still here - I don't quite know why, but I suppose it must have to do with the fact that I feel a sense of responsibility to the people I work with, who are having to cope with some truly monstrous changes of direction every five minutes due to the whims of ADEC...and it's quite a life out there in the middle of nowhere, with many compensations!
Yes, the problem with the apartments was sorted out, but unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done about the (mostly) hopeless bunch of people that MT had to work with in her particular school, and I think it was that that drove her to leave in the end. I'm quite surprised that she hasn't been back to the thread since, but I do hear from her from time to time, and she seems to be doing fine in her new life. |

Hi Carlen... the first facebook link didn't work for me... took me to my own page. The second link works and I recognize a few posters I think. Very helpful stuff on there... but if you have been reading the Qatar board, be careful about posting any pictures.
Hey Taka... glad that MT is OK and sorry that things got so messed up for her. I had been following her blog and after the second sewage problem she stopped posting.
