Toride and Chikusei are both in Ibaraki prefecture, so you guys won't be too far from each other.

I heard today we are getting 3 new ALTs in my city. One will be in a highschool gig that is actually under the Nagano BOE even though its in our city. If I remember correctly (or even heard correctly with the brassband practising in the background) they will be finishing training on the 14th and arriving either that afternoon or on the 15th.

So if you get an arrival date that's probably around the 10th and have had mention of working in Saku or for Nagano BOE, then we could be meeting very soon Very Happy

EDIT: new update... actually 5 are coming here. 3 girls will be in Saku (2 American, 1 Jamaican) and 2 American guys going to neighbouring town, Sakuho... us Brits are being out numbered even more.

Dang, loads to Nagano eh? They finally gave me my area, it looks like for the moment I'll be heading to Azumino-shi so they say. Little over two weeks to go. Haha, getting ready to go is alot tougher then I expected.

We only asked about the ones close to us. There's likely quite a few more.

JET is not bringing in replacements for some of the departing ALTs in the area this year so different companies have been bidding for contracts. One of the branch managers was telling me that they "got Nagano BOE", but I'm not sure whether that meant everything from that BOE, or whether they just made a mistake in their English and actually mean they've won some of contracts from JET and the like. I know there has been another company competing for the contracts in my BOE, but not sure about Nagano itself. One of the JETS told us that 5 contracts were up for grabs this year from our BOE, but Interac only took the two in Sakuho. I think a company called ABC may have the others.

Well I've never heard of Azumino-shi, but you're only a short (and cheap) train ride from Matsumoto-shi which is Nagano's largest city. I hear there are some cool things to see there and that there are some easily accessible climbing and hiking spots nearby too.

Have you been told the level of your main school yet?

I haven't really heard much of Azumino-shi either. But from their website they apparently have a wasabi farm that has wasabi ice cream, and other wasabi items. lol that's about all i know about azumino-shi.

Way back when they only gave me my placement of the prefecture they told me they were trying to make my main school highschool. I tried to angle for more details after they finally coughed up a more specific placement, but it seems that they want to keep me on a need to know basis. But, that's OK because all the placement stuff could always change before I get there.

By the by has anyone gotten their CoE yet?

For that matter if you take it into the consulate in person, how long does it generally take to process? Can I be in and out in the same day? Its a rather long drive to mine in a relatively bad area. I'd much rather like to mail it, but I really doubt I'll have the time given my training departure in two weeks.

Oh how I wish they hadn't waited till almost the last min on that. Oh well.

Well some of the others should have gotten their COEs by now. I have and will walk it in myself.

I don't know how much speedier the process is by doing so but it's better than waiting for the postman to take it in for you. And since it sounds like you haven't received yours yet, it's probably best that you go this route as well.

You should phone your nearest consulate or check their individual sites for information (Atlanta's and New York's links are wrong from the Embassy site though). The main Embassy site says a minimum of 4 days but one consulate I checked said 3 days with a COE, so processing times might vary depending on location and how busy they are.

And of course 3 days means 3 working days since they are not open Sat/Sun, so if you submit on a Friday, it won't be valiable until he following Tuesday. The hours for visa applications suck too depending on the location with the Embassy in DC only taking visa apps 9.30am-12.30pm whilst the consulate in Boston is open for visas until 4pm.

You need to check about posting. In the UK, somebody had to submit the application and COE in person but we could have our passports returned by mail for an additional fee. I don't know what post is like in the US, but for us, involving the post in anything can often not only lengthen the process considerably, but also cause unnecessary complications Confused

I was told I'd be getting my CoE by around the 27th (estimate), but it's already the 31st and still no CoE. I'm sure it'll come soon.

The question I had is about the tetanus shot and Doctor's note we'll have to get. I have a record from around 1 or 2 years ago and was wondering if that'd be valid? I have the Doctor's note from then with the results clearly written out in sentence form (it's like 3 sentence, really short). I'm not sure if Interac requires a recent one taken right before our departure though.. anyone know?

They'll send the COE by courier. Normally takes a couple of days, but they are supposed to let you know and confirm where you want it sent when they send it off and give you a tracking number so that you know where it is and when it will arrive because you will need to sign for it.
Just send a quick message to confirm that they haven't sent it yet rather than it having been lost.

I'm not sure what you are on about with the tetanus though. You should have been asked to have a Mantou skin test or chest x-ray to make sure you don't have tuberculosis. You get a doctors note stating you are all clear, then you fax or scan and email that to Interac. It can be done now. I didn't have to confirm that I'd had any vaccinations.
