I've read situations like that before as well. Those who might have been rejected the first time, maybe short-listed or upgraded the next time one reapplies.
Knowing me, I probably will reapply, but still going to have trouble with references. That was my biggest challenge last year. The first one, my Japanese teacher (and former employer) knows about JET and all that and has known me for years, and my ambitions, so she promised to write me a letter for this year, like last year when I applied. It was the second reference I had trouble obtaining, and this year, I can't think of anyone to ask, but that's for another discussion. |

The consulate interview was well-organized. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
However, the CO was poorly organized. It has been for the most part not an enjoyable experience. I say this with the experience of having worked at other more organized Japanese workplaces.

Fair cop. CO's can be awful on that score. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say "are often awful". That said, in my own experience, they're no more often awful than any other Japanese employer! |

I really (*really*) hate the POAL. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to disqualify all the Brits. |

Save it for BD
Besides, you should be disqualifying any Brit 18-30 male who has just come out of uni. The rest of us know how to act our age and not our shoe size.
And what is POAL? |

Forgive my middle-aged ignorance but...
What is SoP?(Statement of Purpose? The required essay on the JET application?)
CO?
POAL? |

Statement of purpose.
Contracting organization.
POAL? No idea, but I doubt it is either Port of Auckland Limited, or what you will find at urbandictionary.com, the only two things that popped up on my cursory search. Well, maybe the latter, I hate that, too. |

Hey, watch it: I *like* BD. Sort of. It's a cesspit these days, but there really is a good core of people who *really* know what's what with Japan and how to get things done. It's probably the best single resource for questions. You just have to learn how to avoid the rest of it.

It's my gross generalisation & I'm sticking to it. (Actually, I'd sort of agree, except that I'd add "plus a random 33% of females in the same age bracket" to the autodisqualify list. Alas, however...)
Punk On A Lark. Aka - 50+% of "english teachers" in Japan, IMO. |

That's true, but the cesspit people actively drive anybody who has a clue out with their juvenile rambling (although some of the cesspit pool actually ARE the people with a clue when you can get them to stop the cesspit rambling), and if you read that site daily for a week or more, then two things happen 1. You become addicted to it and 2. It makes you dislike life in Japan (and, I would argue, life itself). |
