Greetings,

I'm wanting to go to Papua New Guinea in the next couple years and teach.
I don't see a lot of posting for this province and was wondering if they even had the need for teachers there.

If anyone could help me out, or point me in the right direction of people to contact, that would be much appreciated.

Papua New Guinea (the eastern part of the island) is an independent nation, not a province!

Most of the western part of the island is now called Papua (formerly Irian Jaya). It is the largest province of Indonesia. A tiny bit of the western part of the island is now known as West Papua or West Irian Jaya, also an Indonesian province (the smallest).

Which provinces are larger?

Correction to my post: West Papua is the smallest province in terms of population.

Henry is correct. To the naked eye only Sumatra comes close in size. On the other side of the ledger Java is quite small but contains around half the entire nation's population.

<sigh> Sumatra and Java are islands, not provinces. Yes, West Papua has the smallest population. It was created partly as a result of Indonesia's divide and conquer policy to keep a firmer grip on Papua and partly to pay off greedy locals after lucrative jobs as officials in the new province. Plans to further divide Papua have not yet materialized.

By the way, Papua, and East, West and Central Kalimantan provinces are bigger than West Papua.

Sorry atoms, I stand corrected. It was early when I wrote that post.

On an interesting sidenote if the gentleman in question does end up going to PNG, it was once administered by Australia and as such has Aussie Rules and Rugby League as it's two major sports. They have an international Rugby League team which plays razzle dazzle footy on it's day.
