I wandered into the canteen today and half caught a conversation between two teachers. They were talking about e cards.(They didn't really know much about them) From what I gather they are like credit cards but if you get ripped off buying something on the internet then the bank covers it up to a certain limit.

Is this correct? Can anyone enlighten me. Does anyone have one?

Aren't e-cards electronic greeting cards?

There are e-wallets, which hold your online shopping information as well as e-banking. I agree with Capergirl, I thought E cards were electronic greeting cards.

Speaking of which, it is Dad's birthday...must get on that!

E-cards

An E-card is a postcard

A user sending an e-card to a person would select a pre-written card style with image and message, and would add their own personal message, and specify the recipient's email address. On sending the card, the recipient would receive an email with a link to the ecard provider's webpage, and this link would go to the ecard as a webpage, with the sender's personal message and card. Note that the actual card is not usually sent through the email, but only a link to the card hosted as a website.

The site BlueMountain.com used to be a free service predominantly for the use of ecards, however it has become commercial.

With the changing perceptions and uses for emails, the use of e-cards has fallen somewhat.

Some banks now have what are sometimes called 'vitural credit cards'...you don't have an actual card just an online account...and the banks give a lower limit but they do cover you for any fraud or misuse of your card...

I know HSBC has them because that is where I got mine. I used it for my paypal account and for ordering books from amazon and things like that.

The card comes with a program that will automatically fill out online delivery forms...

I got rid of it when I was cutting down on my spending...I just kept one card and I needed it to be a real card...

BEWARE! It's Mother's Day on Sunday in the UK so get those e cards sent out. I never remember it when I'm abroad because they usually have it on a different date, but that doesn't wash with my ma.
