I will be going to Riyadh soon and have done a bit of research and am satisfied with the place and its amenities.
However, it seemed like there were many more sites forums and threads that were specific to Jeddah. I suppose it must be a good place with so many people writing about it. I am partial to neither, just curious.

Jeddah gets a good press due to sea side location and (very) relatively liberal atmosphere. However, Riyadh is not so bad - it's a capital city with shopping, medical, educational and social facilities better (Jeddah's beach parties aside) than you're going to get anywhere in KSA.
