I will be moving to Osaka in less than a month and just got my visa. My American wife will come in October. How do I go about getting her a dependent visa? We are not sure whether she will want to work. Does it have to be done outside of the country or can it be done from within Japan?
Anyone who has done this already?

Documents needed, see section V.
1. Documents certifying the personal relationship between the person concerned and the person who is to support him or her.
2. Copies of the certificate of alien registration or the passport of the person who is to support the person concerned.
3. Documents certifying the profession and the income of the person who is to support the person concerned.

You'll need the first form, plus the supplemental R form (scroll way down).

The COE itself can actually be gotten inside Japan. I believe the dependent visa can, too.
