There are five technical colleges. I believe none of them are in Muscat. There are 3-5 different recruiters supplyiing teachers. They are under the Ministry of Manpower instead of the Ministry of Higher Education, which I believe all the other public colleges are. The MoM has had a freeze on hiring. They lifted it for renewals a couple of weeks ago. Word from one recruiter I am in touch with now is that the freeze still applies to new hires. It is expected to be lifted by the end of this month at the latest since visa processing cannot take place fast enough to put teachers in place for the start of the semester after that time. The pay will be about 850 BA, 935 MA and 1000 PhD. Plus about 100 transportation allowance and accomodation provided or 250 accomodation allowance. At least one recruiter is signing teachers to provisional offers of employment. It is possible they are signing more than they need because some may not end up coming, for whatever reason. At least one recruiter that I know of says they are waiting to send offers once the Ministry has given its blessing.
Good luck with your app. |

There are colleges of technology (M of M) in Salalah, Ibri, Ibra, Nizwa, Shinas and Al Mussana; in Muscat the college is designated the Higher College of Technology.

Freeze on new recruitment has been lifted across all the departments. The Committees conducting interviews for the Ministry of Manpower have been to a few places to recruit new people.
Best of luck! |

Has anyone had any success yet?
They got in touch with my referee a couple of weeks back, but when I sent them a poilite reminder last week, they just said they'll keep me posted.
Anyone...? |

Contrary to what WiseSheik said, my recruiter says the hiring freeze has not been lifted. Of course that does not mean that interviews cannot be conducted on spec. In fact, they need to have people pre-selected and ready to go when they are allowed to act since the time line is going to be tight. Teachers report on Aug. 29 and students probably 7 days later.
I am told I will have a contract when the go ahead is given. (I already passed the phone interview long ago.) The assumption there is that this will happen next week. (Their week begins on Saturday.) I'm crossing my fingers because I've already declined several other offers to wait for this one. |

Thanks for the info, Mojoski.
Me and my partner worked for the Ministry a couple of years ago. We actually thought that coming back this time around would be dead easy.
As if! |
