The hold is climate controlled, has to be because at altitude (if you check the inflight information) the outside temperature gets well below zero.

Once on the ground, KLM IMHO, would/does everything it can to ensure the animal is transferred to the AC holding area ASAP. Check with them and make a written request - probably overkill, but hey! That's your baby Very Happy

Punkin and I won't be traveling on the same flight, and my husband will already be in country to collect her, so we'll have that covered. He'll be at the airport making demands before our favorite child arrives. We're going to try to book her to leave a day or two ahead of me. KLM doesn't appear to be as good of an option for her to leave NC, though. Lufthansa has the same pet hotel set up in Europe. She'd fly 8 hours direct from Charlotte to Frankfurt, chill and get walked, checked out, fed, etc. at the pet hotel, then fly 8 hours to the UAE. With KLM, she'd have to fly to a different airport in the US first, then on to Europe, then to the UAE.

Having managed a Muslim household for 25 years I have not had any experience of having pets for reasons already mentioned on this forum.
However I must say how impressed I am at the cost, time, effort and I assume stress you are all experiencing in transporting your little critters overseas. I'm having enough trouble getting myself organised Laughing Laughing

One advantage of these hairy critters is that they rarely have those little temper tantrums while one is trying to pack and prepare. Cool

The relationship with a pet is one of unconditional love...without phone calls from teachers, LOL.

Reasons Why Dogs are Better than Kids

Dogs never forget to "go" before they leave.
Dogs can go on long trips without yelling "MOM HE'S TOUCHING ME!!!!"
Dogs never grow out of being kissed in front of their friends.
Dogs don't wear holes in the knees of their trousers.
It doesn't matter how much dog hair a Dog gets in its mouth.
You can cage a dog without going to jail.
Dogs don't "backwash" crackers when sharing your soda.
Dogs will watch classic Star Trek with you and won't laugh at the special effects.
Dogs hide their "blankies" in their crates rather than dragging them around in public.
The older a Dog gets, the more they like you.
Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why. Dogs don't ask why.
Dogs don't roll their eyes when you insist Dogs today have it easier.
When Dogs don't listen to you, it is because they cannot understand the complex human language.
Dogs have tails, making it easier to grab them as they run away.
Dogs don't grow out of their shoes every 2 1/2 months.
Dogs, when entering those teen years, are neutered.
