I'm on the hunt for a new job. Right now I seem to be stuck on Greater Shanghai, but I don't want to limit myself too much.

Money is a factor. In which cities besides Shanghai is 200RMB or more per hour a reasonable fee for private lessons?

I agree Sharpe but selling ourselves short is a common theme on Dave's.
At least in the private student market we can negotiate and walk away if the rate isn't OK.
We can also look at points of difference like specialising in different settings for English ie socialising with English-speaking clients, immigration interviews and intensive work on upping IELTS scores.
Getting two students together is good and shares the cost.

The best way of getting your rate is to state that you charge RMB200 per hour and that applies for up to say 3 students, but 2 is best. They will work it out.

Here in Zhongshan I can easily make that much, sometimes even 250Y. Like others posted already, don't sell yourself cheap. Since you seem to focus on Shanghai, probably the most expensive place in China, you might try to ask for 300 or more. But on the other hand, there is more competition, so who knows. Since money is a factor for you, I'd try a smaller city with fewer foreigners, not Shanghai.

Could those posting 'scores/cities', indicate type of tuition?
One to one, couple, corporate class etc
Private work is one area where we otherwise screwed FTs, have some clout.
I cringe now to think I charged a class at HP in Liaoning (6-8 attendees) RMB100 per hour. That was in 2004 - but still!
