Hello,
The process of acquiring a work visa seems like a nightmare. I've spent hours researching what needs to be done, when, and how much it will cost. I've checked the consulate website which is vague and confusing. I've read posts here which are conflicting and usually end up in arguments.
What needs to happen before I leave this country (US)? How much do the visas end up costing? Each country is different; my work visa in France was fairly inexpensive.
I was recently offered a position at a language academy in Turkey. They do not pay for the work visa...is this normal?

well from what I have read on this thing, 51% of all ESLers are teaching without the proper papers. now that is not to condone it, but to state that it happens/is happening.

And, E, that fact helps demonstrate how far teachers will go to apply their degree and earn a (high?) salary. It's amazing what whites are willing to tolerate in TESOL. It's also amazing to see what kind of behavior they're willing to engage in to maintain a (high-paying?) job in this business.

These eggs (white on the outside, yellow on the inside) no doubt have added the following power statement to their CVs when they apply at these jobs:

"Dear <TESOL Bossman>: I am a yellow belly who will obey your every directive and take any abuse you heap upon me. I will also rat out my fellow white teachers on a whim whenever I need to look good in your eyes, which is at least half the time, as I have nothing going for me that makes me stand out. Please hire me."

I hate working with other whites in this business. I guess I'd better not say that too loudly. With all the white spies that prowl this site, it may cost me a job.

And, R., this phenomenon also contributed to the US's current economic situation, in a non-TESOL way of course.

Hey jamessmart, R. will call it how he sees it; today he's just talking about omelettes.

A version of the species homo sapien that has white skin, but not too much hair. Some are endowed with brain cells. Some act like sheep, but again, don't have much fur/hair/wool.

Buddha how I wish I didn't know what I'm talking about. That would mean I have a good job and work around white people who are actually cool.

Let me get this straight:

The reason you're in a low paying job is because people with white skin and not a lot of hair and who have have yellow insides (i.e. are cowardly custard types) report you to management each and every time you do or say something unprofessional or daft.

Alternatively, it could be because you're a self-important, whiny cock.

Rigel, I think you have opened up a can of worms here, a lot of what you say I can relate to, but are you brave enough to debate this on an open forum?

Whats an open forum? I thought this was one.

R., we go back a ways bro, and I have been on that wavelength you are beaming on this thread since about 1996. I learned it first-hand the hard way. You couldnt be more right about it.

But ya better watch it that the powers-that-be dont really ramp up the warnings after this. I wanna see u here with your against-the-grain rants to keep people honest here. Please dont get banned R.
