|
|
Hi all,
I'll be making the move to Warsaw end of August to look for a teaching job. I've lived and taught in Poland before but in Gdansk with accom. provided by my school.
Can anyone reccommend a good resource for finding accommodation in Warsaw? What can I expect to pay for a small studio or one bedroom flat that is not too far out in the stix?
Any help is much appreciated. (As are any PM's about a friend of a friend who has a room available, even short term.)

I think 1500 zl would cover a studio apt. downtown Warsaw. I know someone who has one, but I think it is rented.
Did you already check on line? |

1500zl is nothing!
You shouldn't be shocked if you come across ones for around 2000zl or so.
Good Luck! |

I pay 1700zl for a nice size one bedroom [40sq/m] 5 min away from the Metro station. You can find some pretty nicely priced studios... it may take a while though, it's easier to find something once you're actually here.
Try Ursynow it's green, convenient and pretty diverse [food/shopping/things to do in general] |

Obvious places are
http://www.allegro.pl
and
http://warszawa.gumtree.pl/
go on gumtree and select only the flats direct from the owner, that way you'll avoid paying commission to a rental agency (up to a month's rent). |

I found my place through this site
http://www.oferty.net/
Be weary of anything that sounds too good to be true, don't pay any fees unless you get to actually see the place [common sense, I know, but you'd be surprised].
Try to find something with czynsz included in the price, it makes things easier. Make sure to write down the water counters [bathroom and kitchen] in front of your landlord [he may be a nice and honest guy but if he's not, that would make him think twice before pulling a fast one on you].
Don't pay more than 20zl for your internet either [some apts come "hooked up" but the price is usually... well, steep to say the least] |

Thanks for the advice and links.
Looking through these sites is really going to help my Polish. What is a 'piwnica'? 'Little beer'? Can't be...
I'm thinking it's probably better for me to sort out a job before I find a permanent place to live. Don't want a long commute. I'm living right in the heart of Suburbia right now in Colorado and want to get away from all that. |

piwnica is a storage area (locker) in the basement of a block of flats. |

I just checked too. It starts at 51.50. There are some promotions for mobile internet which start at 9 zl. but have a transfer limit of 250 mb. Up to 1 gb plus 1 free for 5 months for 49zl or some such number. I have blueconnect now which gives 2 gb for about 80 zl. More gigs for more money. Fast enough to watch videos and what not but it's not too difficult to go over the limit.
I have Aster cable but I think it's expensive. I guess I'll call tomorrow and see about this 19 zl. business. |

Yep, 19 zl 2mb/second. No limits on use. They're coming next Tuesday to install it.
Thanks for the tip. |
