| If you are going to devote yourself to work (and nothing wrong in that, at least in the short term) then why not do it in the higher paying countries? |
Depends what you want from life, I suppose. Life outside work might be far more satisfying for those working in lower-paying countries, and that's why they opt to stay. They might have an attachment to the culture, a good set of friends, a loved one, etc.
Could also be the quality of the work. Maybe you love working with the school and/or students and then 35-40 hours of teaching may hardly seem like work at all. What's that quote about doing osmething you enjoy and never working a day in your life?
Best,

Let's see, these are clock hours
Aug: 60
Sep: 89
Oct: 145
Nov: 118
Dec: 98
Jan: 112
February expected to be the same as January.
The above has generally been the pattern in previous years with Summer being quiet (I usually give myself July or August off) a drop off in the run up to Christmas and late September to early December and mid February to mid May being peak times. |

| Working in a conversation school in Japan, roughly 900 classroom hours this year, maybe as much as 1200 a few years ago before the recession. |
