I have posted my resume on Dave's ESL Cafe and received several responses. In the meantime, I've been checking out the site, and it's been quite the eye opener.

Operating under the principle that "knowledge is power," I'm seeking advice/experiences concerning any and all of the below agencies that have contacted me as a result of my posting:

-Fun Work Inc. (positions in South Korea)

-QMCC Recruitment (www.qmccr.com, for positions in China)

-CSCIEE English Immersion Program (Teaching in China)

-Welcome Recruit (positions in South Korea)

-Education LearningTree (positions in South Korea

From what I am reading on Dave's ESL Cafe, it seems that to maximize your chances of a positive experience, it is of [/b]primary importance to deal with a reputable agency. (Please tell me I'm not wrong in assuming that there are at least some reputable agencies out there!

Any and all advice would be welcomed and thank you in advance for sharing. I'm coming at this as a certified teacher in the primary grades (PreK-5) rather than someone who has taken ESL courses, if that makes a difference. Thanks again.

PS Once your resume is up, can you access it to make changes and/or add a brief cover letter?

Skip the recruiters. Deal directly with the employers. One less headache.

I am confused as to why you are not looking into international schools?
Take a look at the forums on this site.

International schools seem the way to go, and that is what a bunch of people told me too (I have an educator's license), but they aren't hiring right now.

If you want to work for one of them, you'll have to work for them next year, not now.

Maybe I just can't find a job through them, I don't know.

I disagree. There are last minute positions available. And you might be able to start in Jan of next year.

Naturegirl has it right. Never assume the door is locked til you have turned the knob....and certianly never take someone's word that it is is indeed closed and locked.

yearning to go,

check www.educationcanadanetwork.com

There are postings for international jobs for qualified teachers on that site as well as its sister sites. The site also has a resume/cover letter posting feature and a 'job bot' function which notifies you of jobs available in your chosen area as they become available.

Although the 'esl' experience (see the 'esl/efl stories from around the world' thread in the general discussion)is one to be remembered and shared in ones older years with cronies and grandchildren, if, with the right credentials one is seeking to further a career and explore a professional international 'teaching' experience, it may be best to focus first upon those employment sites which target certified teachers.

Good luck in which ever direction you travel
