When they catch him and things settle down, will there be some new business opportunities in ESL-- and would you take advantage of the improved conditions there?

Perhaps, but I hope they catch him *after* the US election, if presumably, a Democrat gets elected. The ramp-up of operations to find OBL times perfectly with the election. When Saddam was captured, it gave Bush's ratings a slight boost, then they went back down again. Since Bush and Kerry are pretty much neck-in-neck here, likewise, a capture of OBL could tip the election towards Bush.

They didn't 'capture' Saddam, he was left on the doorstep.

Call me cynical, but the US govt couldn't bump off Fidel in over 400 attempts, so how are they going to find one teatowel wearer among millions?

I so wish I shared your optimism that things will "settle down" when OBL is captured. Maybe if there was a "regime change" in Washington as well as the demise of OBL I might more upbeat abut it.

New Yorker a few weeks ago had a story that the US know where he is--rural Pakistan ---and will move in in the Spring...Some troops are already there. Stay tuned...And yes this would be timed with an election...

Heard it here 1st---Ok 2nd. Wink

You give us a pretty stark choice.

If I had to choose one of your options, i would say yes, he has been caught and will be paraded for the world's press in - let's just make a qild guess - October.

I don't think catching OBL will make a huge difference to the "war on terror". It's gone way beyond just one man now. However, I do fear it would boost bush's election hopes, and that's bad.

This is the problem alright. The war on terror needs to focus more on al-qaida sub-cells, as well as local terrorist groups that are sympathetic to the overall movement. If OBL is caught, al-qaida will be disrupted, but it will intensify the sub-cells and para-terrorist groups as they try to regroup. So the crackdowns on these cell groups should begin now, before they mutate into other groups.

I think this story overestimates the abilities of the U.S. Intelligence community! Also, if Osama turns up captured right before the election in November, a red flag definitely has to go up among the people of the U.S., as several of the liberal news outlets in the United States are suggesting this capture of Bin Laden is going to happen conveniently right before the election (not just the New Yorker). There was an analyst on CNN talking about this outcome just the other day.

Despite what the media has to say about the whole situation, I believe Osama is safe and sound somewhere in this huge world of ours, and I would bet good money that the U.S. isn't going to catch him anytime soon.
