Kind of an off-topic question. Does anyone know if any kind of martial arts, mixed martial arts, boxing or kickboxing is likely to be practices in the large or medium cities in Oman?

I'm not a big gym person and it's my favorite way to work out, just wondering if it's feasible to even find a punching bag over there somewhere.

There is a club that caters for mixed martialk arts and, as far as I can remember, it meets at the gym at the City Centre complex near the Burg al Sahwa.

There was an article about this club in one of the free weekend papers that you can pick up in Muscat.

Regarding punchbags, there are two types on sale in Carrefour city centre. One is very small and the other is slightly larger. Both look to be quite light weight and can't vouch for their effectiveness. They are at the back near the weights and gym equipment and toys.

There are places in Muscat that offer karate lessons--the Hyatt does, and I've seen some listed in Ruwi, but I'm not sure where.

Hi wellroundedsquare,

A listing of various recreational activities - mostly in Muscat -
is available at:-

http://www.omantoday.co.om/disCon.aspx?Cval=63

According to this listing, martial arts classes are held
at the Al Falaj Hotel in Muscat.

Another suggestion would be to visit:-
http://www.theweek.co.om/ -
and then use its search facility to locate past articles about
clubs under 'sports'. Previously I've seen one article on
how taekwando has taken off in Oman...
http://www.theweek.co.om/disCon.aspx?Cval=1783&highlight=clubs
