Way too vague of a question... what are your qualifications? what are you goals? what are your expectations?
Same questions for your family...
Why just these two? One city and one country? Why not the rest of the UAE? Why not the rest of the Gulf?

Uhm, well, all job-related things being equal, there is no comparison. Dubai is always better unless you're some kind of religious nut-job or a cloistered nun who wishes to exchange her habit for the local variety. Normally when faced with a choice of offers between the two locations, only a substantially greater salary would entice someone to choose KSA over Dubai...family in tow or not. |

Dubai, better still RAK or Al Ain. Your kids can grow up safe, playing outside and enjoy a good education. Saudi is the pits. It'll suck the zest for life out of you, after a few years you'll start to think all that crap is normal and you get so focused on the money you'll be lost to the real world. Destine to roam the empty passages of Dave's ESL Saudi forum forever.
Not that I've any strong views on the matter. |

Dear sinemac,
Were I asked this by any lady that I knew, my answer would always be Dubai.
Saudi is not a country most ladies find at all congenial - though it may be OK for old men.
Regards,

Skip Dubai ---
Way too many foreigners walking around who assume you're part of the local meat market. Too much traffic, too much noise, and a ton of hassle (to go anywhere takes an hour).
Try Al Ain, Fujairah, and now --- parts of Oman (Muscat and Nizwa). You'll find these regions are a tad bit more conservative than Dubai --- but a little more safe, reasonably civil, and a great deal richer, in terms of heritage and culture.
You'll still find members of the western diaspora feeding in the local trough. You'll be able to own (and drive) a vehicle (Omani women even drive some of the big trucks). You can go to Dubai if some bizarre desire to shop or sunbathe strikes you.
That said - the dating scene stinks, if you're single. The schooling is so-so --- but what you loose in academics, you gain in cross-cultural skills. |

Dear Sheik,
Not, in my opinion, one of Cormac McCarthy's better efforts (he lives here in Santa Fe, by the way.)
However, I disagree - I'd say (from personal experience) that taking into consideration all the ages and both genders, the Kingdom is best suited for old men - but, of course, old men being what they are, there'll always be exceptions.
Regards,
John |
