You say you would pull a measley 10,000 SR, but i've spoken to many who have been signed contracts for more than that.

I meant to say 'have signed..' before we get the wolves howling Smile

Tabuk, Direct English- ideal for people who want experience after CELTA?
No. What pitiful, dangerous crap. No one without experience in Saudi ever got anything other than crap wages and exploitation- oddly enough, in schools like Direct English.
But then language schools justify their paltry salaries by preying on newbies, don't they?

10,000 SR + at Direct English Tabuk?
Who do you think you're kidding, pal.

Cash in hand is ok, a job benefit of working illegally with Direct English.

Jeez.

Direct English = shite.backpackpackers.com.getmeoutofksa.fast

No, not kidding. Spoken with people who have been offered more and signed the contract with them.

I can see you have a vivid imagination, should have stayed in KSA Surprised . Also, it depends on the kind of person you are, it's not as bad as its made out to be.

Cya!

Matt, can I make it clear to you, that what you are thinking of doing is pretty stupid? Only a newbie would even look at a contract with Direct English- Al Khaleej. Seriously, they are dead bottom of the foodchain.
Tabuk is fine, if you have Saudi experience and are on something like the helicopter contract- which you won't be of course, because you've probably just gotten a CELTA. So you're going to be with a really crappy language school, in an extremely remote part of Saudi, skivvying like a Bangladeshi for a pittance.
You will be lucky if Direct English even furnish you with a residence paper and you will probably be employed illegally- on a business visa, which is ok, as Direct English won't expect you to last for more than 3 months anyhow. You will be lucky if you pull a measley 10,000 SR- really lucky, and you will be falling victim to all the usual abuses- 40 hour weeks, split shifts, fleecing etc. You will probably hate Tabuk and going to KSA is going to be one of the biggest mistakes you will ever make. Listen, stay in Thailand, Indonesia or the Czech Republic. When you've got your MA + 5 years experience, go to Saudi with a proper job.
I guess you just found the diamond in the shite.

markemark,

meaning no disrespect in contradicting the information you have posted, however, perhaps there is a new scenario at hand. i have mentioned it on another post, but will relay again what i know about this situation (being employed by al-khaleej) based on a contract and half dozen 'clarification calls' (spread out over time to minimize the annoyance factor....)

al-khaleej training center is hiring me (and i'm assuming others, based on the posts here, but i can only speak from my involvement) to teach english in a university setting. straight shifts 5 days/week. work and holiday schedules follow the university schedule.

furnished accommodations plus transportation allowance are in addition to monthly salary. i will hold a work visa with residency rights (not sure if i am saying that correctly) after probationary period expires.

while i have many years experience as an elementary school teacher, i have only one year at the esl/efl level, and was willing to accept this what-some-would-consider-less-than contract. as has been stated and we all know, it is always a personal call to make the best informed decision possible.

the conditions of which you speak do sound horrendous, miserable, and downright depressing. but that's the whole point of going for the masters degree for those somewhat more bearable university positions, eh? Confused

cheers,
leezer
