The 60th. anniversary of the communist government in China is this year on October 1. I recently read that because of this they are cracking down on visas again like they did when the olympics were on. At that time I had a business visa that I couldn't renew because of the olympdicks and had to return to my home country. My question is: Is this crap happening again? Are they refusing people business visas or any other visa because of this anniversary?

i'd say the best place to check would be the lonely planet.com forum. People there are more likely to be on top of the current L/F visa situation than most people here who seem to be on Zvisa/residence permits.

I'm no sure about your statement Eva. I know for a fact that someone recently secured the paperwork needed to apply for a Z visa in HK.

Of course, it hasn't been issued yet, but, they have the forms and will go to HK next week.

If they do receive the visa, I hope you admit that you were wrong. If they don't I'll do the same.

I have never said it was impossible to secure an F or Z visa ..only that they had refused visas which they have...if you know for a fact that they havent refused any visas or that the majority have gone through please post that information.. What I have posted is what I understand from MY experience ... so if your waiting for me to admit I was wrong about something I havent said.. dont hold your breath...

I would have to say it depends who you work for. I work for a government run school, so things are no problem when it comes to the visa etc.

Molson,

Maybe at your "government run school" visas are not a problem. At my government run school, they are a big problem.

Newbie blunder #67: Thinking that because my school has not a certain problem, similar schools do not have that problem.

The original question was - "My question is: Is this crap happening again? Are they refusing people business visas or any other visa because of this anniversary?"

Eva's reply was - Yes. (For more details, see above.)

Someone else typed this - "i just got my z visa in hong kong. it's no problem".

My friend will do the same next week. When will you admit that you were/are wrong, Eva?

Believe me, this has only been a tropical storm. I wonder what will happen when the hurricane arrives?

I am supposed to start teaching in Chengdu today, yet do not have a visa due to "Unexpected delays from the Government ". . My instinct tells me this c%^&&* is happening again.

One of the teachers at the school i work at is having problems with his visa. He went home for a holiday in June and is having trouble getting back now due to the dragging of feet at the visa office. Here in Fuzhou there also seems to be a crackdown on visa's at the moment with 2 people i know of having been deported for visa problems. I've had a visit from the visa police and so have several other teacher's i know. The boss of the school i work at has told me that this is all due to the anniversary of Chairman Mao!

Why were they deported? What are these visa police checking? To make sure you have the correct visa and RP?

Does anyone know if China is doing anything "big" for this anniversary...?
