Beware! I am going to play along and see if they request any money from me.

Here is the proof that it is a scam. You would never arrange your own visa or labor card. No teacher has ever communicated with any ministry to arrange visas or labor cards. If you responded to this instruction, they would request money and that would be the end of that and you will have neither job nor visa/labor card.

Note this on the warning link that you posted:

"We NEVER ask for the transfer of money to process visa applications prior to arrival"

Thus, though it all looks legit and is using the right principal name (though email is wrong... note the legitimate website address), it is most assuredly another version of the scam. They will be getting your money if you follow the procedure to get the bogus visa and labor card.

Did they do a live interview with you? (if not, that would be a second flag)

No, there was never a phone interview. I was emailed questions about classroom policies, etc.

Just received this email back from the school today:

Thank you for your e-mail. Unfortunately I must report that Dubai British School, which is one of Taaleems Schools has not contacted you or made an offer of a contract to you and that you seem to have been the victim of a hoax.

We have been contacted by several people recently and told they have received "offers". We believe this is a scam, either involving identity impersonation (they will want your passport details), or extortion (they will ask for money to process a fake entry visa).

We are sorry that you have been a victim and I hope that you have not parted with any money or given any ID details.

We have reported the incident to the relevant authorities who are investigating this cyber fraud / scam.

I am so pleased that you spotted a potential scam and decided to check with Dubai British School.

That is almost laugh-out-loud obvious, isn't it? You are sending payment via Western Union??? Payable to a person, not the Ministry?? And a person named Haruna Bello? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

But the fee would come to 2500 Dhs or about $675...

(oh... no problem... they "grantee" a refund!!)

Another big tip off is that he gives a street address - nowhere in the GCC do they use such things. Every address is a PO Box.

That's like the bad toothache/accident...versus...what?...the good? Laughing

I just read this, too late. I haven't sent them any money (boviously not that dumb) but I did send them my standard job application packet (photo, degree scan, passport front page scan, resume). How much trouble am I in for this? Can they use that against me? Is it likely? Or, are they likely to just be holding out for cash?

Well, you are not the only one who has done this...

There is certainly nothing that they can do to you... they are known thieves so what could they do without outing themselves? Laughing They do have your information now, but thus far we haven't heard of any teachers who had problems because of this... like identity theft or such.

Just chalk it up to experience and remember that anything that looks too good to be true almost always is.
