Sure we can! Just some healthy debatin'! And for some of us - at least for me - this is a new debate. I only finished high school 12 years ago. In those 12 years, however, I got the CELTA, DELTA and an MA (brand new) .
It must be a major pain in the arse to go through this time and again I'm sure, but it will probably always be around as new (and young/younger) teachers join the board and/or go and work in Gulfia . Then, in 30 years' time, some of us may tell them that this debate has been around since the early 21st century!!! |

Here! Here! I like this discussion too.
It is amusing though how some posters are fed up with a topic but cannot stop themselves posting something just to tell others they are fed up with reading what others are writing. There must be a name for this - CIMRD perhaps (Compulsive I Must Reply Disorder).....
.... or...... |

Dear johnkg,
And then, of course, there would be the associated CIMRRD; Compulsive I Must Reply to the Repliers Disorder.
Or, as this post illustrates, the CIMRRWRRD - Compulsive I Must Reply to the Repliers Who Replied to the Repliers Disorder.
Should you choose to reply to this post, yet another abbreviation will be born.
This way lies madness.
Regards,
John |

Dr Merryweather: Madness, I tells ya. Madness.
Prof Steinlager: Doctor?
Dr Merryweather: The clearest case of ETAMP I've seen.
Prof Steinlager: Pardon moi?
Dr Merryweather: Everyone's Talking About Me Paranoia
Prof Steinlager: Seal the hatches and warn the WHO. There could be an outbreak. |

...and the "beat" (a dead horse) goes on! ...VS is absitively right that teaching is an Art and not a Science...do not know much about CERTS adn DELTS (mine being waaayy out of shape) but a Masters can take a couple of years and can be as hands on as you want it to be...as Mr. Spock opined "...each according to their gifts..." ...as with anything, you can skate through and learning nothing, or be engaged (...ah, Jean-Luc, how I miss you!) and learn muchly...smiling often and openly at VS and johnkg for wit and wisdom...thank you...and as to faculty lounges?...Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid!!! |

Sure I did. And staff canteens. Attention and discussion were mostly centred on food, the weekend and the upcoming holiday. Good times! |

The problem is that, in the UAE they want 'nurses' with a doctor's qualifications. Even worse, some of these 'nurses' think they're better than the doctors!
If you have a baby - you want a doctor as far away as possible as he has the theory but hasn't got a clue how to deliver or interact with the mother hence you need a Midwife - someone who knows the theory, has learnt how to apply and is is preffered by all except the doctor who is only needed in emergencies - thank god some you have a diploma. MA and CELTA combined. |
Au contraire. Having given birth to two sons, I want multiple doctors, including the anesthesiologist. An epidural beats that breathing stuff any day. |
