Hello everyone,

I have been reading the forums for a few months and finally decided to post a question. I am a prior govt. contractor with the U.S. military and have decided to change my career to teach esl. Mainly because I have done some volunteer TESL work in the past and enjoyed it. I have lived in Kuwait for 4 years and enjoy everything that most people find intolarable. My normal working hours as a contractor were between 80- 90 hrs/week in the hot kuwaiti sun. I am looking for a new career that would allow me to travel and do something that is (personally) rewarding. I would really like to venture out and try something new that I think I could be just as good, if not better. During my time off from work I've spent much time with the kuwaiti people and took in the culture. I absolutely love it! I have taught myself enough gulf arabic to communicate, when need be as well.

With all that said, I have hold a B.A. and currently working on a TESL cert. I loved the time I have spent in kuwait (hence my name) but I have read that experience is usually 2-3 yrs or more.

My question is: are their any schools that I can begin at that are half way decent in terms of a ticket (to and from), paid housing and won't rip you off with shaddy practices? I could really use a good place to start this process.

Hopefully with some time under my belt i can change my name to 10yrsinkuwait Wink Thanks everyone...

Some are advertising on the TES website www.tes.co.uk

Of all of them, the Fahaheel English School is probably the only half way decent one at the minute.

Hi Q84life - it's a pleasure to see someone with your attitude. I have to say - I don't know why The English School Fahaheel was recommended - even though time served and qualified in ESL, most schools require a BA in English as well as TESOL cert. As a result of which I taught in institutes. However, the fact that you have Kuwaiti connections may help you greatly - as I have said previously - Its most definately a case of 'not what you know but who you know' in Kuwait. If you find anything - PLEASE let me know!!!!!! Smile
