Can someone give me the average monthly cost for one and two bedroom unfurnished and furnished housing in Kuwait? For an EFL position, what is a suitable/average housing allowance for furnished housing? Also what kind of car can one rent for 100KD monthly? Is that enough for a suitable car?
Basically what I am asking for is how much allowance for transportion and housing is needed/suitable for Kuwait?
Thanks for any feedback. |

No one has any knowledge about costs of apartments in Kuwait?! I'm not asking for a speech about the periodic table.
I may be coming to Kuwait soon, but I think the housing allowance is low. Can anyone PLEASE give me some rough estimates on what it cost for a decent one or two bedroom furnished apartment in areas such as Mahboula, Hawalli, and Fintas?
Any infor on car rental prices would also be beneficial.
Also, how much would you say it would cost to fully furnish an unfurnished 1 to 2 bedroom apartment?
As far as furniture and the apartment I don't need anything elegant, however I don't want to live in a substandard apartment with substandard furniture.
Thank you for the feedback!!!!!!!!!!! Only asking for rough estimates. |

As a very rough idea - places in Salwa/Salmiya can be found for around 325KD+. Obviously depends on location, furnished/unfurnished etc. Places like Hawalli I believe are cheaper but maybe becasue they're not great places to be. I think Mahboula is cheaper but then futher out so depends on how much time you want to spend travelling to work.
Finding furniture shouldn't be too much of a problem with places like IKEA (check their website for prices) and Home Centre.
For more info have a look on justlanded.com - has lists of flats to rent and expats leaving who are selling furniture. |

I have been teaching in Kuwait for 5 years but my schools have always provided apartments. 250kd for an unfurnished apt im Mahboula or Fintas, more in Salmiya. Furnished apts start at 350KD and go up. I would highly recommend living near work because morning traffic is terrible. You can rent a standard compact- Toyota, Mitsubishi, Citroen- for 100KD, maybe 110KD. The cars are usually only a year old.
I am a bit surprised to hear your school doesn't provide an apt. They should give you at least 300KD allowance. |

In the 6+ years I've been in Kuwait, I've never heard of a school giving 300 kd for housing allowance. Standard is 150. |

My school offers their apt or 350kd to find your own. Ministry of Defence gave me 200KD allowance for the one month I worked there. Yes, Al-Mullah is a leasing co. I know of. |

Who on earth are you working for webcafe??? The working conditions are either terrible, you have to work every weekend or you've died and gone to heaven!! The only people I've ever heard of getting more than 250KD were British Council Staff and school HODs. Please tell me !!!!!
PS- disregarded knowedge- you can get a four bedroomed apart in Salwa for 350, you just have to look....call an agency, go see, then if you like it call the owner yourself and bypass the agency fees.... |

I teach an Australian College. Before this I taught at an American private HS.
ESL teachers should try to broaden their horizons. Forget about language schools which have lousy and irregular hours and teach at a normal overseas school or University. Once you have years of teaching experience you can work anywhere. |

I got 250KD for housing in the late 90s. It was just barely enough for a very small unfurnished two bedroom in Salmiya. I also had a 2500KD furniture allowance.
I was neither BC or an HOD...
