Well, the employer just e-mailed me and said he will start issuing a WORK visa tomorrow. This is making me really nervous. I don't know what to do. I didn't even have a formal job interview with these people.

I was really excited when the job ad said it was only a 6 month contract because going there for the first time I wouldn't know if I'd like it or not even being a convert to Islam.

Mouse5: Is Oxford Academy a franchise? I think that is the franchise I might be working with here.

Is 30 contact teaching hours per week a lot?
Could I live on 4500 SAR my first month?
Could I save money the 5 months I would make 9000 SAR (in Jubail, I think)?

The absolute worst conditions endured here are by converts to Islam. If you are a convert you should NEVER tell the employer that. It will gain you nothing but derision, poor wages, abuse and you will be bound by the stupid shariah law.

So you want them to give work visas to those who don't have a job, and business visas to those who have no business contacts in the Kingdom?

That means that the country has no stake in the workings of private ESL contractors. A work visa is only issued to someone when they have been given a signed, valid contract (then they DO have a job) and business visas are issued to those in the ESL industry only as a way of circumventing Saudi law. Of course when I came here I had no "business contacts" other than the slimeball I ended up working for. The SA Satani cretin would have to swim up to eat whale sh*t.

I do not understand why that original poster still insists upon posting. The "recruiter" is a fraud & everything stinks to high heaven so why still the interest?

Well... he posted it back in 2007, so who knows if there is any interest now. You keep resurrecting old threads. Laughing

OH YES. The owner of Oxford Academy Al-Hasa branch has the rights for the whole Eastern provinces. Apparently he's buddy buddy with the real francise owner in Jeddah who has the rights for all the Gulf States.

I don't know if this is so much of a scam as it is a new start up recruiter with little or no resources, whose aim is to pass along as much cost as possible to the potential employee.

I can't say for sure if this is the case here, but it clearly has been the case with some recruiters/head-hunters I've dealt with along my way.

One has to wonder if much of the trouble/problems we encounter is/are due to the actual employer or the result of recruiters trying to cut the cost of doing business.

In any case, it probably doesn't matter since the resulting negative repercussions on the teacher are the same.

Rigel is the Arabic name for the left foot star of Orion. As it is so bright and it is moving through a region of nebulosity, Rigel lights up several dust clouds in its general vicinity, the most notable being the IC 2118 (the Witch Head Nebula). Rigel is also associated with the Orion Nebula, whichwhile more or less along the same line of sight as the staris almost twice as far away from Earth. Despite the difference in distance, projecting Rigel's path through space for its expected age brings it close to the nebula. As a result, Rigel is sometimes classified as an outlying member of the Orion OB1 Association, along with many of the other bright stars in that region of the sky; more specifically, it is a member of the Taurus-Orion R1 Association, with the OB1 Association reserved for stars closer to the nebula and more recently formed.

Blah blah blah blah.
