|

Hello all, I haven't posted on this site since 2002 or 2003 probably, when I was just starting out in Korea. I worked in Korea from 2002 to 2008, my final three years were at EWHA Womans University. I am at the University of Sydney now finishing up a Master's in Education (TESOL). I'm going to marry one of my Chinese classmates and am on my way to China in a few months. We're thinking of settling down in Beijing or Shanghai. I've poked around on a few job sites, including this one. When do the public university semesters start? What are the "hiring months" for universities? Should I contact university English language departments for job inquiries, post my resume online, etc? I'm just wondering what's a good way to go about landing a university job in either of these cities. Any information or advice would be helpful. It's a little intimidating to totally start over from Korea with no contacts, language ability, and knowledge of the field in China. I'm excited though. Thanks for the replies ahead of time. |

The Chinese semester begins tomarrow November is a good time to start looking for a job in the spring semester. Heck you might even be able to land a job for this semester if you are willing to Hustle over to China on very little notice.
Contact English Departments
Post your Resume on various job websites
Contact Foreign Affairs Offices (If they have any)
Sign up for as many job sites as you can, and just send your resume, a picture of your white smiling face, copy of your passport, and copy's of your degree's to any job advertisements that look interesting.
If they are interested in you, insist on talking to a current/foreign FT before proceeding.
Dont work with a recruiter, more than likely you will regret it for one reason or another. |

In addition to Renegade's advise, you should go directly to the university websites. Look for contact information or a ''teachers wanted'' link, and preferably a hotmail, yahoo, gmail or some other e-mail address like that.
You almost definitely won't be able to get a job for this symester at a university. The university which hired me has classes starting in a couple weeks, but even then there's not enough time for you to get your Z-visa.
Oh, and Renegade is right in that a good picture of yourself can be very important. |

while waiting for my Z visa to process this summer, I responded to a number of esl job advertisements just for fun, even though I had no intention of following through with any of them. I sent one a picture I had taken earlier in the day, and they told me I was too tan looking
Now in the winter im white as the snow, but I like to get out and enjoy the summer. I had a nice laugh over that one. |
