I remember a while back that people were recommending Go Lloyds and XE as legit places to use to send money back home.
I was wondering if anyone has used XE and if they used any other sites prior or after to compare?
I tried looking for the original post, but searching for xe or sending money with xe doesn't really yield me.
Thanks for any help. |

I use xe.com, and used it when I was in Japan. Used the Post Office before that, and SWIFT a couple of times.
The account set up process is a pain, but once it's done it's very simple to use, and the rates really do make a difference on larger amounts. The lack of fees is nice, although I've been told that you have to do a furikomi into their Japanese account these days, no direct withdrawals by them any more, so you're up for a few hundred yen for that from most ATMs or online bank pages.
These days I use it for shuffling money about various countries and, when I'm feeling game, some small time currency speculation.
What else do you want to know? |

I was more just trying to get some proof so I could ease my conscience before I jumped into it really. Thanks. |

Thanks, that was the original post I was looking for I think.
Well, I'm still in the process of signing up with them, but I've sorta hit a snag.
They're asking for a copy of a statement or letter from my bank that contains my name, address, bank account #, and the bank's name, but when I went to the bank, they said there was no one thing that they could give me with that information.
Any suggestions? |

Do you have any personal cheques from the bank? Surely a void cheque would contain the info they need. That was what I used. |

Nope, says on their email that voided cheques are not accepted by them. Also, I don't have any from my Japanese bank. |

I suppose they've changed their criteria since July 2008 when I had signed up.
If there isn't one thing that contains all the info XE needs, could you obtain two letters/statements and send those? XE is ultimately a business and I would think they would be more than happy to accommodate you. More users=more money, right? |

A personal check? In Japan?! Have you ever *been* to Japan?! |

Ask the bank teller for a 30 day transaction history statement. If you bank with a real bank even the ATM's might be able to spit it out for you. |

Yeah, I've never encountered personal cheques here in Japan! I was under the assumption that the OP was wanting to transfer money to a bank in his/her home country and that he was trying to set up that account with XE--not a Japanese account.
OP, I'm just curious, why are you setting a Japanese bank account up with XE and not an account in your home country? Is the purpose to have folks back home transfer money to your account in Japan? |

They must have changed big time then, because now they are requiring verification of the account where the funds are coming from. That's why I need to get my bank info. |

Wow! It was tough to get set up with them before and now it's even harder and more tedious!
Good luck, Wayne432. I hope you're able to get everything set up. |

I use XE all the time to send money home. Yes, the set up is a hassle. I found the easiest thing was just to call them or e-mail them and ask all my questions. They are very helpful. Whenever I called real people answered the phone and when I've e-mailed questions I've gotten answers within 24 hours. Their rates are real good and I've probably saved over a thousand dollars using them over the last few years. |
