This issue is dealt with in Chap. 7 Article 85 of the Labour Code. If you don't mind having your employer withholding pay because they "don't trust laowai", that's certainly your call to make. As well, if you agree to be paid after your contract actually expires, that's up to you too. My experience tells me that people who have little trust in others and are suspicious are often untrustworthy themselves. You certainly can't eliminate risk in terms of airfare and holiday pay, but you need to minimize the risk and watch your butt. As well, this kind of provision may be indicative of future mistreatment, so I'd be very wary Harry.
