Best I could find:http://www.gzgov.gov.cn/enggov/pages/compass11.htm

Did a Yahoo search. Not much on the town itself but there is a lot of scenery in the area.

Tongren seems to have a lot of mining and chemical industry. I must say that "Sulfides Festival" looks inviting. Wink

Guizhou is sort of the Laos of China. Hauntingly beautiful. Many fascinating ethnic groups. ...._interesting_... cuisine. Very poor. Very backward. A lot depends on you. Could be a fabulous experience or a total nightmare, depending upon your preferences, expectations, and adaptability. It's also mostly mountain, so get those legs and lungs toned up...

Tongren lies in northeast Guizhou, near the border with Hunan. (You can easily travel to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, a spectacular scenic area in western Hunan.) The city has a reasonable hotel. The Fanjing Mountain Reserve, 25 miles away, draws the most tourists. Visit villages of the Tujia ethnic minority outside Tongren. Avoid the rainy season from May to July. Industries associated with building materials and food processing form the economic mainstay, but I would not describe the area as thriving.
