I do think that if you intend to share information on the Saudi section - or the Middle East in general - it is your responsibility to tell the rest of the readers here if you are speaking from experience or not.
Those of us who are regular posters here, like JohnSlat, do... it is only fair to new readers so that they know who to put the credence in. You need not name employers as JohnS and I regularly do... (as we can do as we are no longer looking for employment there)

Dear destionable,
Although I don't think we've been engaged in hostilities, a truce is fine with me.
And if you prefer not to mention your travels and where you've lived and worked, that's also fine, of course.
I sincerely hope that nothing I've posted caused you any upset.
Regards,
John |

Funny that! It's NOT news! What would be news would be the requirement of exit visas or something like the requirement of passports for nationals of Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. to travel between their respective countries.
Now, that's news!

Dear Readers:
I have submitted a total of about 45 posts on this forum. I have noticed some people have submitted thousands of postings...Examples VS(more tha 8000 postings) and John S(more than 5000 postings)!!!
I admit I have wandered why in the world one would be posting so many comments on this forum??
However, in my opinion, whether a person has submitted 1 posting or 10,000, does not mean by any standards that the person's comments who has posted little on this forum are of less importance than he/she who has posted 10,000.
So I find VS's comments totally inappropriate...after he/she and John S don't own this forum? or do they?

By the way, counting the Korea board, I do have over 4000 posts.
Is that enough for entry into the inner circle? |

(of course your Korea entries count... too bad this only counts my posts from the last incarnation of the board in 2003 and doesn't count the posts for the previous 6 or so years) |

I posted this, but since it was at the bottom of page 2 and then from page 3 a fighting match started, it got ignored. So, I am posting it here again:
About the UAE, there was one case last year that was posted in the UAE forum and a link was provided to the victim's blog as well which included her phone number. She was a young American woman working for a locally-managed school and she was not allowed to leave for a few months from May till September I believe. I don't remember what the reason was, but from what I read, she owed them nothing and didn't break her contract... I think maybe the school owner and/or admin changed and the new owner/admin were just horrible and wanted her to stay but she didn't want to.
I personally called her cell phone from here at that time and spoke to her about it and offered some sympathy... she was driving at the time! (in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, I can't remember) |

Dear destionable,
"he/she and John S don't own this forum? or do they?"
Well, actually it's a joint venture with major stockholders such as scot47, Cleopatra, Mia, trap, Stephen Jones, desultude, and a few others.
However, we're seriously considering going public and getting a listing on the Big Board.
Like veiledsentiments, I actually have way more than the 5000 listed. Why so many? Well, partially because I'm the message board equivalent of a blabbermouth, and partially because I enjoy the company, and partially because (being a teacher) I also like to be of service to others if/when I can.
And, should you stick around for about 15 years as I have, I'm sure you'll accumulate a large number of posts, too.
Regards,
John |

Thank you John S.
I just wanted to point out to all readers, that credibility has nothing to do with the number of postings a person has made on this forum(as VS implied) or age(as you inferred). If both of you are no longer working in the
Middle East I wonder why you would be wasting your time posting on this forum?? Haven't you got better things to do??

I suspect that the answer to this... in as polite a way as your questioning of it... is NOYFB

Dear destionable,
" . . . credibility has nothing to do with the number of postings a person has made on this forum."
Well, except that the more postings one makes, the more one reveals how much or how little one knows about Saudi. So, newer posters, who might review previous postings, can better ascertain whether or not to lend credence to what one writes.
"or age(as you inferred)"
Huh? Maybe YOU inferred, but I didn't. Actually, what I implied is that experience which comes with time tends to lend credibility.
"If both of you are no longer working in the
Middle East I wonder why you would be wasting your time posting on this forum?? Haven't you got better things to do??"
Well, you see - I don't consider it to be "wasting time" (do you consider the time you spend here to be "wasted?") As I mentioned in a previous post, I enjoy posting here for a number of reasons, and one of those is the same reason that I enjoy teaching: the opportunity to share some of what I know with others. True, we are no longer working in the Middle East (are you working there?), but the experience we have can still be of service to others.
Regards,
John |
