Hi,
I submit the following question to the wisdom of the forum:
Do you know where one can find some good material for the teaching of science subjects to Chinese students? The students are about 16 years old. There seems to be a lack of decent material in this area.
I also wonder if there are any decent websites from which one could download materials or classplans?
Thank you. |

| If you're interested in space sciences, I got a few off of nasa.gov. They have a pretty decent earth sciences, space sciences, incl. lesson plans and everything. You should probably assume that it's for higher level kids. |

Bill,
I'm teaching Physics A-Level right now - I also did it last year in Harbin (same goes for Maths). The book I use (used) is Understanding Physics by Jim Breithaupt. True, it is geared for A-Level, but if you compare with the Chinese high school Physics textbooks (which do come in English translations!), or anything else for the level of students you are talking about, then this would be easily the best single textbook for your students - it can be easily adapted, and has lots of questions etc, including exam level stuff (multi-choice and structured questions). I also have access to various A-Level stuff - past papers etc., including syllabi (is that the correct plural?). Let me know and I'll see what I can do. Best get hold of Acrobat reader though - it's all pdfs!
Details: Understanding Physics, Jim Breithaupt, Nelson Thornes, ISBN 0-7487-4314-6.
Look for the equivalent, for Chemistry - not the same author, but same publisher. PM me if you want to talk further about this.
Have a good 'un
