I would very much like to start taking Judo and/or Aikido classes once I get to Japan. I am, however, having some difficulty finding a dojo in Sendai. All my stereotypes suggest they will be on every corner. Is this so? Will I find one? Does anybody know what the prices are like?

Thanks to anybody that can help.

~Ciao

No idea about outside Kanto region.

Check www.E-Budo.com.

Also known as e-baka. Take it for what it's worth Smile

Don't know much about Aikido 'cause don't like it. But Judo is plentiful. Your best bet would be the local universities and police stations.
What exactly are you looking for? Which area will you be living in?

Dude, don't knock Aikido! Judo's cool to in my world.

Yeah, diderot. It depends where you're looking. Tokyo's got so many things going on in the martial arts vein.

Anywhere there's a university, there's a Judo club. The problem is most of the classes start in the early evening, which makes them out of the question for many eikawa teachers.

Karate is plentiful too, if that's your thing. Don't know about Aikido however.

I'll be in Sendai. Isn't Tohoku University in Sendai? They should have something there, right.

Since these classes tend to be in the evening, when I'll be at work, is it possible to find somebody to teach me one on one. Perhaps in their basement or the Japanese equivalent? How would I find such a sensei?

Thanks.

I think you are probably right David. I think I am just getting nervous and/or antsy. I'll be in Japan in about a month and well...

Timuli, actually I used to train with an Aikido club when i lived on Shikoku. But since then, I've picked up other styles. I liked Aikido for the breath/ki thing. It's very effective in that respect.
