|
|
I have an MBA from Walden University, which is an online school, a BA in History from UConn and about 2 years experience teaching kids in Korea.
I'm not in UAE now and I don't have any connections there.
I think that if I got a University job in Korea, I'd be looking at something like 2.2 million won a month, housing, and 2-4 months vacation.
How does that compare to what I would be able to get in UAE?
I don't want to teach kids anymore but I would be open to teaching business English or something along those lines.

None of the good tertiary employers would be interested in you. You don't have the Master's in TESOL or Applied Linguistics and you don't have any relevant experience.
Perhaps Berlitz or similar might (and it's a big might) employ you, but they don't do offshore hires, only local - that means no airfare, no medical, no housing and an hourly wage - which won't get you very far in the UAE even in depressed financial times. Nor would they sponsor you (so far as I know) they usually do in country hires of people who are here on their spouses' sponsorship but perhaps someone else knows differently?
Go to Korea, get some experience - if you could combine it with business experience (i.e. a job that actually uses your MBA) - you might be considered by HCTs business departments in 4 or 5 years time. |

If you have a MBA and 3 to 5 years of teaching experience (teaching business), you can get jobs with HCT in their MBA or business courses.
With 2 years of english teaching of kids in korea.. you may be hard pressed to find ANY of the more desirable jobs.
If you were to get certified to teach elementary or secondary studens you could do the "english speaking school" route you could get a job. |

So is teaching business at HCT considered a good job? I'm in the middle of searching threads here and came across this post. I would especially be interested in teaching tourism. Thanks. |

HCT is one of the top employers as far as pay and benefits. It is a large program with campuses all over the Emirates. They require good solid educational credentials and related experience. (and they do check credentials and references) I don't know if they do anything with tourism, but I suggest that you take a look at their website to check out what majors they cover.
There is a small college in the Muscat area of Oman that teaches tourism, but I don't know its name.

That's it... I was just too lazy to google. I have a couple friends teaching there too.
Oman Tourism College... nice logical naming on their part... no mysteries.
