I searched the archive but didn't find an exact answer
How long (on average) does it take for the PSB to process a RP?
I'm in China with a Z-visa, started work a week ago, had the medical and submitted the forms to the PSB with the FAO today. The FAO tells me he is not sure how long it will take.
Will I get my passport back before National week?
Any input is most appreciated. |

| If you are worried about travel I would ask for the receipt that comes with the handing over of your passport that says your RP is being processed. That and a photocopy of your passport should suffice. I think it took a week an a half for mine the first time and about two the next. |

It could depend upon where you traveled before you arrived in China. The first two times I taught in China, I had visited several European countries as well as a middle eastern country and a near-east country prior to my entry into China.
A month went by after I gave the FAO my passport (reluctantly). Then we had to go back to the PSB. They took my picture (again!) and told me that it would take a little longer to process me.
In all, it was six weeks.
My last gig in China was a bit simpler. I had a new passport, and it a matter of going to the PSB, having my picture taken, and paying 900 clams. |

Thanks for the replies so far.
I bought a domestic plane ticket to Sichuan months ago for National week.
So I need to passport to show the ticket counter. Do you think a PSB receipt and a photo copy of my passport would sufice (in the event that the PSB takes its sweet time)? What about to book into hotels etc.
I expect it will take a week or so to process, but you never know how things can get held up. |

| If you're still in your home country, you can't go anywhere until you get your passport back with some sort of entry visa. Have you read the Chinese Consulate's explanation of how the visa works? |

IT, what makes you think he/she is still in their home country?

Something similar happened to two friends. We went down to Kunming and they were getting their visa for Vietnam. At the same time, we flew to Lijiang. Luckily, one of them had their passport copied (and he had something else- I think it was either his Z-visa or RP copied or the receipt that confirms that his RP is indeed getting processed). The other one did not have anything but his F.E.C. They were able to use this to fly domestically but it did take awhile at the airport as we ran back and forth since no one knew what to do! |

Well that is good news. I guess domestic travel is not such an issue since they just want some type of ID to see that you are the person named on the ticket (back home we can use our drivers license or some other photo ID). Its nice to know there are options. |
