You can check with esl employment online or go to El Informador newspaper online and check the ads for maestras ingles. If you got your tesol in the states, you might check with your school where you graduated.
You can also get a list of schools in Guadalajara and email them. There are always teachers coming and going here. Just work at it.

Something to consider, especially if you're still in Thailand, is whether you'd want to have your TEFL cert "authenicated". You might also start looking at what you'll need to do to get your university degree "apostilled". (See the sticky thread on "Apostilles" for more detail.) Here in Cancun, I've been told I need both to satisfy their requirements.

I want to second what Tretyakovskii said.

I got my TESOL certificate in Thailand. It turned into a nightmare to get that apostilled when in Mexico. I never ended up getting properly FM3'ed because of that and couldn't be legally employed. Make sure you read the stickie at the top of this branch of the forum.

Here's what GueroPaz, another poster, said about the process, in 2007.

Quote:
I just phoned the Mexican embassy in Bangkok to see about getting my TEFL certificate apostilled. She said it's now a 3 step process.

1. Get the MoE of Thailand to certify that the course was MoE approved. You must go to the district MoE office where yours was issued.
2. Go to the MFA of Thailand for them to certify it.
3. Go to the Mexican embassy in Thailand.

GueroPaz wrote "apostilled", but Thailand is not a party to the Hague Convention, and in Thailand it's necessary to follow a slightly different path, perhaps exactly as he outlined, above, to get your TEFL "authenticated".

I would suggest joining MEXTESOL- its an assosciation for English teachers in Mexico. There is a chapter in Jalisco and we'll be having an Academic Saturday on 23rd January. It'd be a good opportunity to network with other English teachers in the city.

Membership is just 200 pesos for 1 year and you can join online (and pay by credit card)www.mextesol.org.mx , there is also a small jobs section on the mextesol website that may help you.

Another reason to sign up to MEXTESOL is that when applying for positions, if you write on your resume that you're a member, I think it just shows that you're serious about coming to Mexico and also serious about teaching English here. It may make you stand out from other applicants.

I am a member of MEXTESOL, just to let you know that I believe its a good group to join!

Mexico is nothing like Asia. Few schools hire from abroad and those that do are often desperate, shady or worse.

Best bet is to be here on the ground looking for work.
