				| Hello all,
My boyfriend and I are both applying to teach in Japan and he is looking into Aeon. I have spent some time searching this site and skimming the journals for information, but I still have a few questions.

I realize the difference between Aeon and Amity is teaching kids or adults, but putting preferences aside; I got the impression from a journal entry that Amity was smaller, does that mean the competition is higher than for Aeon? Would experience as a camp counselor and overseas experience go a longer way with Aeon or Amity? He comes off as a fairly reserved person, is this a strike against him or does it show professionalism?

Also, do they interview for both in the same session or is it separate?

 Thanks for all your time!

				| I'm sure there are exceptions, but if you are applying for a job at an eikaiwa, being a reserved person is a liability. They want genki types especially if you are teaching kids. | |

				| I interviewed with AEON not long ago. For me is was like this; they interview a bunch of people together, then if they like you, they will invite you for a follow-up interview at which point they will ask your preferences, that us whether you want Amity, etc. I was honest with them, saying that I preferred such and such but that I would accommodate so long as such and such. Later they will call you back to tell you if you got the job, where they have a position for you and what the school is like. All this is available on their web page, I think. If not, give them a call. I have seen a lot of crap fly around about AEON, but as of yet, they have been great to me. Just ask them.
BTW: If he is shy there is no way he will get a position with Amity.

 Good luck!

				| Both branches are good to work for. I suggest discussing concerns for either branch directly with the recruiter or call like diderot suggested. keep in mind working with children is much more active and requires a great deal of energy and enthuasium. if you want some more info check out www.eltnews.com
www.juliebearjapan.com is a journal site from an Amity teacher.

And take ALL advice on posting sites with a grain of salt!

 Good Luck

				| Thanks everyone for the replies! I still have to get on his case about applying. We'll see how it works out. | |
